I've been reading the OT since 2006ish and there has always seemed to be this underlying hatred for all things California, not by everyone but it seems to be the majority.

I was born and raised in Alabama, (by parents who are lsu alums) lived in Baton Rouge for 4 years and now have been in California for 3 years. I personally think California is the best state in the US. I've been to a lot of states and I understand everyone likes different things. I am trying to understand the viligent hate lots of OTers have for California. Is it the politics, the pot, the hippies? Someone please shed some light on this matter that isn't a bull shite obligatory OT response.

Let's try and have legitimate conversation about this.

California has great weather. Everything else about sucks.

And I think you should stay there. Thanks.

I was there for a few months kind of recently, and the only thing that seemed strange to me was very young people smoking pot openly. Since you can get it for anxiety there, I saw more marijuana smoking than I see cigarette smoking in Louisiana. It was crazy.

I'll give you the reasons

-LSU fans hate USC because of the split title
-Most people here are conservative so they don't like those kooky left coast liberals
-If you live in Baton Rouge all your life it's easy to be mad about a lot of things. Especially the fact that you can't afford to live somewhere nice like California

(last part was a troll, but probably partially true)

I've been here for 4 years now and I'm ready to bail. For me it's four things (burdensome building codes, high taxes and cost of living, awful gun regulations, non-neighborly people).

The amount of homeless people I saw in L.A. over New Years. They creeped me out a bit. Also, the traffic and earthquakes

Cost of living and practicalky no freedom from politicians and over-regulation is what makes Cali a bad state. Nothing to do with lifestyles or the Landscape.

For example, if you're not making at least 170K, you don't even entertain the thought of moving to the bay area or L.A.

First of all, "viligent" isn't a word but I think you were going for "virulent". Which brings me to my point, while I have travelled to CA a fair amount and have friends there, the level of people in CA who think they are better, smarter, faster, etc than us dumb Southeners is prevalent. That is why I hate CA. Quit acting like y'all know better than everyone else in the country.

Beautiful place though with awesome weather.

I've only live in southern gulf states and I love California. I've been several times. I've always met great people, had great service, food, etc. There is a ton to do out there. I disagree political and I'm not an environmentalist but that doesn't make me not like them.

Go to a fast food place there vs here and you'll be amazed at how different the workers are. If it wasn't so expensive I'd move.

Some folks have no idea of the geographical and social/political diversity in Cal.

Your politics are bat shite insane, but it's easy to get away from most of it. Half the state (Geographically) is fairly conservative and has very diverse geographical features. Mountains, desert, cold, heat, surf, etc

I don't get the hate either.

California is a beautiful state. Amazing outdoor opportunities and great weather for the most part.

The people ruin it though. Politics being the main thing. The other is people are extremely vain.

I've visited quite a few times and I would have liked to move over there with a friend of mine but the cons listed above prevent me from doing so.
