Have you shoot one before? I haven't. I would make sure she is comfortable shooting it first before you buy it.

I have taken woman to the range before and let them shoot my .22's first. They get comfortable with the .22. Then I had them my full size XD 9mm. I load 2 rounds in it hand it to them. Both times they gave it back and asked to load the magazine all the way next time.

I'll let her practice a little with a full sized 9mm, pawpaw has a couple. I'll let her try his LC9 down the road, may end up bumping up to a 9 if she likes it. I will also try the .22 first.

I'm working nights tonight so if I don't respond quickly, my apologies. I really appreciate the input. I personally don't have too much knowledge in smaller caliber handguns.

I have shot both LC380 and the LCP. It's hard to compare my big arse shooting it compared to her lol.

Sounds like you have a good plan. Start small and work your way up to the 9 or 380

A smaller gun will always kick more than a larger gun. The trigger pull and the hammer moving screwed up my shots on the Bodyguard. Got my gf a M&P Shield 9mm, and she likes it

what about a Bersa Thunder .380 Conceal Carry? I hear they shoot great and it's a DA/SA.
This. I carried a Bersa 85 (same thing only with 13 rds) as a backup weapon years ago. My teen daughter uses a Thunder and I'm known to carry it around from time to time.

It's a Walther PPK clone that is licensed by Walther. Less recoil than any .380 out there.

That said, 9mm is better if the lady can handle it.

I always start them with a .22 LR Glock (using an Advantage Arms conversion kit ). Once they're getting good hits with the .22, and once they're comfortable, I put the 9mm slide on the gun.
...

The point is, start her with a .22 -- and try to use a .22 that has a trigger action that's as close to your 9mm as possible. That way there's minimal "reorientation" as you swap guns. This why I use an AACK -- the student shoots the same gun, same trigger, same sights, same mag release, etc. whether dry firing, shooting .22 LR or shooting 9mm rounds.

Whatever you do don't start her with a .40 or .45 caliber handgun -- almost guaranteed to produce a flinch in new shooters. And it's harder to get rid of a flinch than it is to induce one.

Solid advice.

.380 is not optimal. 9mm have no recoil so buy her a full size

QueenRanch started with God's choice of pistol chambered in 45ACP. She's an excellent shot and would put her up against. 95% of the OB.

I was thinking something like this or a walther ppk. They've got a bit more weight to reduce recoil and make it more fun to shoot.

If it's good enough for 007, gonna enough for me.

Hell yeah! She'd probably like that one lol.
I'm gonna let her experiment with a few of the ones mentioned and see what she wants. Thank y'all for the advice. Y'all were a big help.

I failed to mention the main reason for getting her a pistol. It's for her well being in general but, we have a "baby country" coming later this year and she'll do some traveling into the city by herself for appointments. Any input on target practice while pregnant?
