Politico...
Just what we need. More govt micro managing of business. And some wonder why we haven't had a normal recovery in 5 years.

Well, since they've mandated impossible fuel mileage requirements, why not this as well.

actually not a bad idea. Would take longer than five years to implement.
But we are moving towards driver-less cars in 20 years or so.
I can see a future where interstate travel is done on autopilot.

Besides talking to each, the technology would allow cars to communicate with infrastructure such as traffic lights.
I'm sure this won't be abused by municipalities.

How ironic.
A Chevy Impala has to talk, but Lois Lerner doesn't.

This sounds like a great idea. If the statistics are accurate, preventing 4/5 accidents where the driver is not impaired, seems like the direction we should be moving.
Especially in this accident-prone state.

We need these now because the 20 something age range can't put a damn phone down for 30 seconds and drive.

I'm sorry, but in my world it's the over 65 crowd that drives like idiots

Will the lost revenue to trial lawyers from the 4/5 of accidents prevented be offset by the big money claims against the manufacturers for faulty communication between the 1/5 who do crash?

I say we skip all of the half-measures and just ban travel. Accidents = zero

How financially efficient is this technology now? I understand the industry has been working towards this, and it will eventually happen, but is the technology truly ready yet to be financially efficient?

quote:Sounds awesome. The amount of people I see driving and yacking into their phones or staring down into their laps scares the shite out me. I don't know how I, or anyone else, is alive at this point.
DOT estimates that the technology, known as “dedicated short-range communications,” could prevent four out of every five crashes not involving impaired drivers.

We can fly to the moon, but we can't multitask while driving?
I'm not saying texting while driving is a good thing. I'm saying that the evidence shows that good drivers can do both.
