Culture: Great music and some of the greatest authors of all time. Probably has the most profound history of any state..some good, some bad. But still interesting nonetheless.
Preservation: MS does a great job preserving it's historical sites. Many old antebellum homes and downtown areas across the state are "like new" due to efforts to restore and preserve them.
Forestry: Big industry in Southern Ms.
Farming: Great farming in the delta. Catfish farming capitol of the world..the state produces about 75% of all farm raised catfish in the country.
People: Some of the nicest people you'll ever meet here. Very down to earth, friendly and God fearing people in MS. We get a bad rep due to a racist history, but in the modern world anyone who moves here quickly changes their perception. Also we have some of the most beautiful women in the country.
Gambling: For some odd reason, we are second only to Vegas in the casino department. I personally enjoy this attribute.
Private Schools: One of the best private school associations in the country.
Manufacturing: This is relatively new, but due to business friendly policies and being a right to work state, we are steadily building manufacturing plants across the state. The Golden Triangle, Canton, and Tupelo areas are booming.

I will admit Georgia is in a different class than Ms La and Ala. Anyone that denies this isnt being truthful.

Mississippi doesn't have to excel at anything. I never mind passing through for a weekend- I have plenty of great friends in Jackson, and love visiting the coast.

Big deer.
And don't kid yourself. There is a lot of wealthy people in Mississippi. They don't advertise it either.
Pre civil war more Millionaires in Natchez Mississippi than New Orleans, or New York.
There are really many different Mississippis
The Coast
The Metro araes
The College towns
The River Towns
The Hills
The Delta
White Mississippi
Black Mississippi
The Club of Mississippi
Poor Mississippi

There are really many different Mississippi. I have lived in most areas and in Louisiana and Alabama. All have good aspects and bad.

quote:That's quite a qualifier.
Pre civil war
I spent some time in Mississippi in my youth when my grandparents lived in Picayune. Maybe I don't give the Magnolia State enough credit. I met plenty of nice, generous, down to earth people, because I'm not a minority. If I were, I'd assume I would be (literally?) dead to them. Southern hospitality only goes so far.

Well let's see...Archie Manning, Elvis Presley, Bo Didley, BB King, Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, Walter Peyton, John Grisham, Jimmy Buffet, Eudora Welty, plenty good deer hunting. If you don't like it stay out.
