I follow Megan and find her writing to be clear, concise and well-reasoned. This article is no exception.
She talks of the inevitability of the law getting "fixed" and the resulting system bearing little resemblance to the current law.

I have to confess that at a quick glance, your thread title looked to have the words Obamacare and Beyonce in it and I pissed for a split second.

employer mandate (which our own Ezra Klein has shown is critical to both coverage expansion and cost control). It seems unclear that this will ever go into effect, as the regulatory difficulties of tracking compliance are enormous, and enforcing it will trigger unpopular changes in working hours and other conditions for many workers.
Will be interesting to see if they get another delay next year.

On a global scale, it's an example of the lone superpower jumping the shark.

Yes, talk with any HR person or "C" level employee and you will want to take a day off when the news comes down.

Serious question ... how exactly do you get this message out to your employees? IMO, it is something they need to be warned about ... but, it will come across as political or doom/gloom.
"There is no way to sugarcoat it: not sure what is going to happen with our Company healthcare benefits ... but, suffice to say, I must tell you ... it will more than likely NOT be anything good at all for you, me, or anyone."
Can't shine a turd ... no matter what those MythBuster dudes say.

depends on the industry. If they are already providing healthcare for their workers, and providing good benefits, it doesn't really mean that much to them outside of some administrative headaches.
I do agree obamacare is a pile of shite though.

George Bush's fault, plus racist.
The Dems have bitten off more than they can chew, and we're all gonna suffer from it. At least when we're all trying to get a Dr appointment, we can commiserate in our shared suffering.

Completely disagree.
I work for a midsized company that provides health benefits to all employees(roughly 600).
While you're correct about individual policies being largely unchanged, the major differences will come in family policies.
Premiums are going up for all. Many companies will eat some of the employee increase but shift a larger portion of the burden on additional family members to the employee.
This is where the bloodshed will come from.

You are exactly right ... based on what we're hearing internally as well.
For an individual ... may not see much.
For an individual with a family of 5 ... FUUUUUCCCCTTTTT.
And that is a damn shame.
Very good people... hard working people ... who never asked for anything other than to be left alone to work hard and provide...WILL SUFFER....because of Obama and the Democrats.
GAME OVER.

This is the case for many.
My SO works in Education(Upper Mang.), many of her workers did this to themselves.
This will be the most interesting thing to watch. IMO.
Will be an ugly day indeed.

Game over? It's the way it's always been.

What's really going to piss everyone off (and probably be final impetus/crisis to single payer) is when the large employer penalty is postponed yet again and employers all start dropping coverage because of increased costs.
Remember the employer penalty much like individual mandate was the lynchpin of this whole boggled mess.

Not like this. This is a system which (as it currently exists) will penalize people more and more for trying to get ahead. The punitive nature and complexity of the ACA makes the tax code and structure look straight-forward and orderly.

And it's something the media hasn't really touched on with any depth yet because it's still far enough away that there hasn't been lots of big fallout yet. Just wait until the employer mandate is implemented, that's going to be the shitstorm.

Bingo. Right now, employers aren't saying anything bc there's not much you can say. We don't really have much of an idea of what 2015 benefits will look like. Most of us are operating on 2 game plans - one being if the mandate is delayed again, another if it's not. However, there will be a point fairly soon that we are no longer able to do this and the cost increases will demand changes. Those changes will hit families hard. Very hard.

I think it just depends on the benefits, what they provide and too whom. I know we got a what obamacare means to us webinar, and the end result was - "nothing" but we are a very large multinational that provides really good benefits.
