NFL considering abolishing extra points

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told NFL Network's Rich Eisen on Monday that the league's Competition Committee might eventually abolish the time-tested point after touchdown in favor of a brand-new scoring system.
"The extra point is almost automatic," Goodell said. "I believe we had five missed extra points this year out of 1,200 some odd (attempts). So it's a very small fraction of the play, and you want to add excitement with every play.
"There's one proposal in particular that I've heard about. It's automatic that you get seven points when you score a touchdown, but you could potentially go for an eighth point, either by running or passing the ball, so if you fail, you go back to six."

I think for 1 point you start from the 2. for 2 points you start on the 5.
no more kicking XP

I may be in the minority, but I actually like this.
I think it should still be part of the college game, though.

Goodell won't be happy until he mushroom stamps every aspect of the league.

Shrink the goal posts. NFL kickers make too many kicks anyway.

replace placekicking with dropkicking
Posted on 1/20/14 at 4:58 pm to Rand AlThor
for extra points, you get two options, move it back to the 15, or two point attempt from the 5
thoughts?

If anything, just make it a 30 yarder instead of a 20..
Posted on 1/20/14 at 5:05 pm to Rand AlThor
so because kickers have gotten better, we need to change the game? frick goodell, he's a piece of shite
make it to where the kicker of the extra point has to have been on the field during the TD

Yet another hypocritical statement by Goodell when you consider his stance on kickoffs

If the goal is to increase excitement, how do they justify not being able to return a blocked XP or turnover on a 2PC for 2 points?

Run the ball in is 1 point, pass it in it's 2 points

So no more extra points, no more kickoffs… might as well just eliminate field goals, too, and get rid of kickers altogether.

We're going to have to rename this game that used to be called football.

Narrower goal posts solves this.
