Ya, that way you have it in hand for January.
Ideal scenario is to put all spend required in a few days in January so the spend counts towards the pass as well if needed.
However this is all predicated on when bonuses are offered and discontinued, which dates seem to vary.

Yeah, I may go for the CP this time around since HI flights should be starting in early 19.
Just saw an email from Marriott that the date is Aug 18th for programs to be combined. What are you guys doing with your points? I took the 100k offer for the Marriott card and have about 130k worth of Marriott (45k SPG) once I swap SPG over so 230k and I can do a nights and flights package before they change them for the worse. Not sure if I will as the Category of the hotels also change on Aug 18 so a Cat 7 cert will likely get you a Cat 5 in the new program which is still very nice but not what I'm looking for necessarily. I guess it's good for someone who wants miles at a great rate more than anything.

If my wife already has a personal SW credit card (she’s had it for like 5 years), can she get the new one with the 65,000 point bonus?
Secondly, I’m an additional user on her card, so can I get the new one? Do I cancel first then get it?
The clearly waited until past mid year to give out this bonus to make it more difficult to get the awards (apparently the promotion ends 8/22).
Any thoughts on this situation?

Yes, if she gets rid of the one she has now before she applies.

No, you do not need to cancel first, you should be eligible as long as you're under 5/24.

I wanna say yes, as long as you didn't get a bonus within the last 2 years, and you would need to cancel her current card.
That's how I understood the rules at least.

Hmm, interesting. Thing is they've had 60,000 point promos on their other "lesser" cards before, so it would be puzzling to me for them to kill the reward bonus on their "premium" card so soon. Unless they're just worried about people taking advantage of the companion pass deal, which I certainly was .
If they cancel the bonus I won't though.

Hmm, I took that to mean you couldn't have 2 personal cards at the same time, and as long as you didn't receive a sign up bonus within 24 months you could simply cancel your current card and apply for the new one and still get the bonus.
Is this not the case? I can't really find a definitive answer.

OD vgc deal has been taking $20 off instead of $10 as advertised at some stores when you add your rewards number. Been hitting them this week with 5x on Ink+.

Good deal on the Chase IHG card (100k signup bonus + $50 statement credit) that I would definitely jump on, but reading a bunch of stories about Chase shutdowns has me hesitant to open anything new with them anytime soon.

I see the shutdown reports but often times its people with a lot of cards. Its still concerning.

I’m only 6/24 and nothing since December (no Chase cards opened in 12 mos), so I’m pretty sure I’d be fine, but it would suck more to deal with a shutdown than it’s worth.

What would a shutdown entail?
I have three Chase cards

Entails all your cards with Chase being cancelled. An unknowable limited window of time to get your points out before they go down with the ship, and probably one to two years at least before you can get a Chase card again.

i believe i'm still at few cards under chase's 5/24 rules...and i considered that IHG card.
(but..i just wouldn't stay at holiday inn to make it worth it)
i think i'll probably only add both the personal and business chase southwest card in nov or dec to obtain companion pass for 2019/20....and then i'll probably be done for a while.

Did they get rid of the free anniversary night? That’s why I keep it. My girlfriend and I have it so we have a free weekend stay each year.
It’s not just holiday in, they have Kimptons and more.

They will be limiting the category level of the free night. Capping it at 4. So no more free night in Bora Bora.

This is probably been addressed 1 million times on here, however, I don't have the time to shift through 500 pages on this thread. But help me out on credit cards.
Currently have Capital One Quicksilver with 26.24% APR. I'm only 22 and this is the first and only credit card that I got(about 2 years old). Only benefits to this is the unlimited 1.5% cash back on every purchase.
I want to get a card with lower rates (obviously) and a better rewards program, if possible. I've done some research , but you guys are the pros. I do a lot of travelling and probably fly anywhere from 2-5 times per year.
Any help on cards choices would be appreciated, TIA.

Start here. It's got good info and can help you narrow down what you are looking for. You might want to check your credit score before trying for the high dollar cards (CSR, etc) Where do you spend the most? Can you hit the min required spending for some new cards?
