I created an account, went through the steps of choosing my legs, clicked “view” of whatever the button was, and got a pop up saying that I didn’t have enough points in my account, and gave me the options of paying without Avios or choosing a “more economical itinerary”

Iberia is a standard distance based chart so you can prob see any information you want from their award charts. The other major factor is Peak vs Off Peak.
For ball park, it was 34k for a business class MAD - JFK booking when I made mine. Think premium economy was ~24.
If you’re looking for partner (non-BA Oneworld) awards, you need to book RT.

You probably need a few Acios in your account to activate it. I think I purchased 100 Avios. I know you need a few Avios in the account before you transfer BA Avios into your Iberia bucket.

What's the cheapest award travel to Tokyo using Chase points?

The least points needed one I've been reading about lately would be Virgin Atlantic Flying Club to use on ANA.
Have you looked into this at all Gene?
I'm booking Japan also for 2019. I was just looking into Teddy's recommendation and while ANA does have good value point wise (around 50,000 points round trip out of the west coast) their fees seem to eat up that value at over $250 in fees.
I'm seeing similar flights straight off of the UR portal in the 35,000 point range with zero fees.
I'm sure the airlines are a bit different in status, and I also didn't check business or first-class tickets either.
What kind of deals have you seen?

Just an FYI, I suspect the classes in service you're comparing are not the same. When I fly to Asia I'm not doing it in economy, and there's no way that 35k UR total is anything but Economy.
Such a game changer IMO for flights that long.

Yeah I definitely wasn't looking business or first, I said in my post. I'm not up to first class traveling yet
.
I just didn't know what Gene was looking for. He said cheapest, so I figured overall cheapest.

I meant business class
ANA redemption is great for business class travel with maybe 70k roundtrip if you get their low season saver rate

Any of yall ever churned bank accounts? Got the $300 checking and $200 savings account offer from Chase and was wondering if there was anything I should know before doing it?

Ah, gotcha. Yeah that's hard to beat.

I've never churned, but I did use the $300 Chase checking offer for my business checking account.
It took me 6 months of fighting with them to finally get it though. I don't know if that's the norm.

Doctor of Credit does extensive blogging on churning checking. Might want to check that out.

I don’t churn but I’ve done quite a few. Keep in mind though if you do a lot, the bonuses are taxable unlike credit card bonuses.

Any discussion about the new Southwest card that just released?
I think I'm going for the companion pass at the beginning of next year. The new one has a 60k bonus and seems like a decent card, and the business card has a 40k bonus.
Hit those then you'll need roughly 6k more points for the companion pass, and you get it all through 2019 AND 2020.
I will be flying like a madman if I pull that off.
Eta: nevermind I read it wrong. It's potentially 65k points, but needs 15k spend in first year for the extra 25k points. That may be tougher than I thought, and cuts into the time frame of having the companion pass.

Alright so I'm applying for my first credit card soon and wanting to get one with Skymiles since I like to travel. What would be the best one?
Been looking either Delta or Southwest

How's your credit?
How much do you plan to spend on it?
What airline do you think you'll fly the most?

At this point I'd wait to complete Companion Pass in 2019 so you have it for 2019 and 2020.
Reminder to all that you can no longer get two personal SW card bonuses to complete Companion Pass. You'll have to get the business card and then one of the now three personal versions to stack the bonuses.

My credit is good, not planning to spend a ton on it, and probably Delta
Posted on 7/24/18 at 11:27 am to Teddy Ruxpin
Yeah that's what I meant, start Jan of '19.
Posted on 7/24/18 at 11:31 am to rintintin
Ya you should be able to grab two 50k offers at least. I'd wait for those. Business was 60k for a while.
Posted on 7/24/18 at 3:30 pm to Teddy Ruxpin
I plan on waiting until Nov-Dec and jumping on the Business then the Priority once I'm close to the Business spending limit. Priority seems like a no-brainer since the $75 credit essentially makes it a $75 annual fee with the better perks and anniversary bonus.
On a related question, I'm currently 2/24 with Chase Ink Preferred & Cash. Was thinking about cancelling the Preferred just to make sure I look good to Chase when applying for the SW Business. Is this overkill or will Chase decline me for trying to have 3 business cards?
