Another question: What goes on during the judging? Is their food? Beer tastings? etc...
I ask because friends want to come to the judging with me, but if there is nothing going on but judging, i may just tell them not to worry about it.

The judging itself is pretty boring if you aren't involved. You typically try to keep the room as quiet as possible to allow the judges to think, fill out the score sheets, and discuss/compare the beers.
There will be an awards ceremony that evening after the judging, we are going to try and start the at around 5:30.
Some of the craft brewers that Mockler distributes have donated kegs and we will have jambalaya and white beans available.
If you want to bring along some homebrew for people at the awards ceremony to sample I don't think that will be a problem.

If you come to the judging we can pair you up with some experienced BJCP judges and you can see how everything works.
Only thing we ask is that you check with the organizers so we don't pair you with people judging a category you've entered.

I need to put this on my calendar because I know I will forget about it.

So this isn't turning into a giant FBD bottle share?

I would say yes, but we wanted to be invited back next year.

Question: When do you find out how you did? At the awards ceremony?
Saturday is going to be busy for me. Got a cancer walk in the morning and using the only good day of sun to build my deck. I would like to be there, but i have so much other shite happening, and if i'm not involved with the judging, it sounds kind of boring, honestly. Or is there events going on during the judging? Such as beer tastings, etc...
Posted on 3/6/14 at 11:09 am to BugAC
Is this event open to the public or do you have to be associated with a club to attend/taste beers?

The winners should be posted on the website a few hours after the awards ceremony.
I will also post the winners here and maybe have one of our guys live tweet the results as they are announced.
Score sheets will be sent out some time next week.

I don't blame you at all, if you're not involved with the judging it's definitely boring.
Some of Mockler's brands have donated kegs of commercial beers for the awards ceremony. I honestly don't know which beers at this point, but there will be food and beer available after the judging is complete.

Very cool! Congrats to my FBD brethren on the list.
If there was a coolest name award, Cass Mabou would win Gold, Silver and Bronze.

I talked to several young home brewer from NOLA yesterday who are looking for an alternative to crescent city homebrewers.
Does your new club have a formal meeting time or an email I can give them?
Posted on 3/9/14 at 2:14 pm to LSUGrad00
Tell them to hit me up at my TD username at gmail.com. We are still in the infancy. Planned meeting times are first Tuesday at 12 Mile Limit at 7 or so. Tell them to email me as that's subject to change at this point. Preliminary club name is Swamp Rat. We have already had a good bit of people express interest. There is a need for a younger club within the city.
