re: What will be Magee's role going forward in 2014? *updated*

I think itll be the same as this year. Hes the 1 back on the roster that brings something different to the table. He kinda has his own little niche in our offense. Hes our best pass blocker, can catch, and is solid at running the ball as well.

This past year Hill had 203 carries, Magee 86, Blue 71, and Hilliard 68. We ran it 523 times last year. We most likely will get out entire OL back. And with a young QB coming in and new WRs, i expect us to run the ball a lot more than that.

If LF is as good as advertised,and he is, Hill gets 230 touches, LF 185 touches, Magee 115 touches. Hilliard around 50 touches. Puts us right at 580 carries on the year, and 40+ carries per game.

Mcgee could be the odd man out. Its going to be hard to get carries as the season progresses without injuries. He is a change of pace guy which will we need in a few games. He will be in on some 3rd down packages. He's a good player and I hope if he does lose carries, that LF beat him out and it wasnt just given to him. McGee not only deserves going in as the 2nd string with a fair shot, but the guys block their asses off for him. He's a shot of adrenaline for even the fans.But he wont get many carries unless both Hill and Fournette are struggling that game. This is assuming that Fournette is good enough to beat out Mcgee clearly. If so he is going to deserve a lot of carries because McGee can make plays. Theres just not enough run plays to get everyone involved when u have the Buga Hill Gang.

They rushed less and passed more last year though with the new coach.

And people must be kidding. Once in the last (just went back only 14 years) did we throw under 319 times and that was 2011. We also had a short field which did not require a lot of plays.

Unless we get amazing field position again like we did once in the last 14 years at least, or we go back in time to 2004 where we only played 12 games and finished with 319 pass attempts, then expect us to throw for around 315-325 passes.

Not many people know this unfortunately, but:

Magee, on only 86 carries averaged more ypc than Hill.
Deeming him more effective in the run game.
Magee: 86/626 7.3 ypc
Hill: 203/1401 6.9 ypc

He had a jump pass.

TM is a stud. I'd like him to get 12 plus carries a game. He worked at slot early in his career and can see him getting snaps there as well to help break in our new we. Also expect a lot of shotgun with 2 backs next year. Have to have formations with LF JH together and maybe some with all 3.

I want to see him throw a ball. He was a left handed QB, and that would throw off most defenses (as most always go to their left since a majority of QBs are right handed).


His numbers in high school are insane. He'll primarily be a RB with fresh legs but I'd look to see him throw the ball at some point.

We haven't done that since Ware, who was also right handed. It would be a great play, done right, to catch a defense flat footed.

He's a sturdy 210-215, with a low center of gravity, and is hard to tackle. He could easily be a feature back

This is true and McGee is a stud. But for LSU, he is a change of pace back. Sometimes, hitting a hole a split later or earlier makes all the difference. That is what McGee gives us in the run game. He should become the exclusive 3rd down back and get plenty of receptions. His total touches may go up, making him even more effective next than this year. His carries will be less and less as the season progresses without injury on 1st and 2nd down imo assuming Buga is as good as advertised.
But there is no doubt, he could be a featured back in many places.
