Yeah i'm not sure why I said that, but it's still weird that there have been no actually reports of Texas being shot down, just a bunch of guys who were linked to Texas getting pay raises.

"Heck, even Bama was rejected before they hired Saban and the whole world knew about it"
It's funny how everyone is giving Texas the benefit of the doubt that they have a coach lined up while no one gave Alabama the benefit of the doubt when they waited for Saban. The media used every one of the statements from coaches and their extensions and raises at the time as evidence that they had rejected actual job offers from Alabama. I remember ESPN running through a list of about 6 coaches that Alabama supposedly offered the job to and got rejected by using the Family Feud wrong answer buzzer. They even claimed that Jim Leavitt turned down an official job offer. The fact is that Rich Rodriguez was the only official offer Alabama made to a coach before Saban. Rich Rod initially accepted before Finebaum essentially sabotaged the hire by picking on RR's wife on the air.
This Texas search is very similar to Alabama's last search in that after a lot of initial speculation the search went quiet for several weeks. I think Texas has their guy.

The list is getting down to this guy.

Hey, Texas said they wanted a coach who won a BCS or a Super Bowl. He fits the bill!

I think a homerun hire for Texas would be Ken Whisenhunt. I could see him having a Peter Carroll type run at UT. If they are realistically looking at NFL guys, I think he would be a good hire.
However, all things are pointing to Briles IMO, who would also be a great hire...probably the best hire they could make for their program outside of Saban.

Honk if you've turned down the Texass job today.

I think this is the correct answer
Why?
I know his offense puts up points, but his defenses are terrible even against some mediocre teams. He has averaged 4 L's his last 4 yrs at Baylor.
I understand he has been in Texas and I'm not saying he's not a good coach, but if UT is all this great of a job and everything what makes him all that attractive for Texas?

Why?
1. He is a Texas football legend at the high school and now collegiate level;
2. He has had great success the last two years with Baylor...perhaps the hardest school in Texas to consistently win at;
3. He is at Baylor, meaning it would be easy to pick him out of Waco and plant him in Austin;
4. He is not a threat to leave for greener pastures, ala the NFL...Texas likes stability...it is why they have had so few coaches over the last 25 years; and
5. He would recognize his place being familiar with UT and the State of Texas in general and how deeply entrenched money, power and politics are in the UT athletic department having been around that for decades.

Recruiting season is heating up and UT stands to lose a lot if a replacement is not named by the end of the first week in January
their AD reported in the houston chronicle this morning that they have set a deadline to have a new coach by january 15th. that's cutting it close but the dead period ends that day so the new coach can visit all of the commitments and recruit their targets by phone before signing day. many recruits, if not most, want the program and if the new guy is a good salesman (what hc isn't?) they can save their class or at least most of it.

why? I'm not sure I've ever heard an actual quote from a school rep in the middle of a coaching search. Like ever. I can imagine someone like Red McCombs spouting off, but not an actual rep.
there are always leaks. when bama was looking more than one guy was reported turning it down and it was reported. for a long time, it looked like bama was fricked but they ponied up and got saban. they snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

I don't know if i'd call having rich rod all but hired 'waiting'

that sir, is NOT a fact. it is your spin and a rewrite of history.
maybe you are confused on the definition of offer. there is no way you would be privy to who alabama "offered" officially or non officially or whatever other kind of offer is out there.

Well, there is a fraction that believes they didn't get "turned down" by Rich Rod.
Some think that Moore pulled the offer b/c Sexton told him that Saban was waiting until the end of the season and would consider it then. If you believe this is what he is doing with Texas then you likely believe Bama had Saban all along too back in 2006 from about 12/13 until his effective hire date.
Some think - as Armen Kateyan (sp?) reported in his book - that Moore and Rich Rod had an agreement but that it was contingent on remaining quiet for a couple of days. The news leaked out and Moore knew Rich Rod felt trust was violated and so he (Moore) moved on.
All that said, I don't think the Texas search is going poorly at all. They aren't getting Saban, Harbaugh, or Malzahn, but they'll make a very solid hire. Of that I am nearly certain.

Can I triple stamp it? Man, some of you are pathetic. He's not leaving Bama. Let's move on.
The fact that Texas doesn't currently have a HC is partly due to the fact that they were NEVER going to hire someone before they finished Mack's last game. It has nothing to do with Saban being "done" after the bowl game.

One site is saying that Franklin has already been interviewed by Patterson and that Strong to be interviewed, which I find interesting if true since Vandy has yet to play their bowl game.
