Here is what we know:
- Texas still doesn't have a coach;
- Rumors of coaches to UT have been nearly non-existent since Saban agreed to new deal;
- Jimbo Fisher has been the most mentioned candidate, followed by Malzahn;
- Jimbo apparently just signed a new extension with FSU;
- Malzahn also reportedly has a new deal with AU.

So, all is quiet at UT. The coaching search committee formed by Patterson has reportedly not even met.

All three frontrunner coaches have new deals.

Recruiting season is heating up and UT stands to lose a lot if a replacement is not named by the end of the first week in January.

Conclusion: Texas already has their man and he has yet to coach his final game at his current school or professional team. I don't see any other reasonable explanation.

Who is that man?

I think you're giving UT way too much credit on already having a coach

As someone who wants them to continue to suck, Briles is probably in the top 3 "coaches I don't want to see at texas"

Its ridiculous that he wasn't higher on the list to begin with

Ya, UT could be scary with him. Imagine the offense full of 5 stars

Or, UTx sucks at finding a coach.

If that were truly the case, we would see a lot of thanks but no thanks stories akin to USC with Peterson, and what other schools such as Miami and Notre Dame have endured in recent years. Heck, even Bama was rejected before they hired Saban and all the world knew about it.

The fact that there have been no such stories since the whole Saban fiasco is very telling IMO. It means they already have their guy...it is just a wait and see for the rest of us now.

I am fairly certain that guy will be Briles.

Texas was never going to name a coach before Mack's final game. They didn't want to steal his spotlight. They gave him his moment last night. Now the next step in the future of Texas football begins. They'll name a new coach within a week. It won't be Saban, or Harbaugh, or Malzahn.

The new coach has not coached his final game and there has been a recruiting dead period the last few weeks.

It will either be Saban or Strong, IMO. I am leaning more towards Saban going to the NFL now more so than last week. The contract extension in Tuscalooser means nothing today.

My wish list, in terms of tiers and what has been reported to this point:

Wishful Thinking Tier: John Harbaugh, Jimbo Fisher

Best and Most Realistic Option Tier: Art Briles

If All Else Fails, Give This Guy a Chance Tier: Gary Andersen, Chad Morris

As Much as I Love Texas, Please Stay at my Alma Mater Tier: Gus Malzahn

I do think it's pretty suspicious that all we have heard up to this point is blind reporting, with no actual quotes from agents or UT reps. So I would not be surprised if we do already have our guy and we're just waiting till next week to announce it

why? I'm not sure I've ever heard an actual quote from a school rep in the middle of a coaching search. Like ever. I can imagine someone like Red McCombs spouting off, but not an actual rep.
