Well, actually Santa bought his first rifle. Got him a Savage Axis Youth 243 and put a Bushnell 3-9x40 scope on it. Can't wait for Christmas Day, he'll do back flips.
For what it's worth, I purchased it from Tony at Thompson Creek Sporting Goods and can't say enough good things about my experience. Probably paid a bit more than if I'd purchased it elsewhere, but with background check and all, I was in and out in 30 minutes.
Can't. Wait. For. Christmas. Day.

Can't figure why people still by the 243 instead of a 7-08.

243 is a great gun especially for a kid.

I bought my son the same rifle. Came with an entry level Bushnell Scope. I'll get him.some better glass for his birthday in August.

The younger Dong could use a pellet gun.
Have a few boxes of ammo on hand for Christmas morning.
Ear plugs too!

No need for better glass IMO except to spend money. My Remington 7400 has the original scope my grandpa put on it in 1984. Does fine and it is a deer/hog killing machine. Why fix what ain't broke. Save that money and get him another gun.

AXIS - accurate as can be. Kids have a .270 and a 7MM-.08. Eldest Dong will love it. You get camo or black synthetic? ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconcheers.gif)

does the axis have the accu-trigger?

I can buy 50 boxes of 7-08 ammo within a 30 minute drive and I don't shop ammo at Wal-Mart.

You obviously don't live in South Arkansas.

axis doesnt have accutrigger but is still super accurate for a rifle its price. And you can adjust the trigger pull with a simple clip of a coil or 2 in the trigger spring

Nice. He will remember that forever
I think my dad bought me and my brother when I was 2 and he was 3. Not that I knew anything about it and it wasn't for Christmas
Browning .243s
He hunted with my brother's for years and years
and left mine in the gun case. First time I it was ever shot I think I was 10 or 11 and it's in faptastic shape
Mine might be in better condition but my brother will get the 7mag custom left handed thumb hole stock with a Swarovski scope on it though because him and my dad are left handed shooters.

Likewise in NW LA. I can buy zero boxes of 7-08 w/in a 30 min drive…..and WM is the only game in town. Our WM doesn't even stock 7-08. I bought a 7-08 handgun a few months ago and thought I'd buy a box or two to sight in, use brass, etc., but couldn't find any. I know the ammo situation is still weird right now, but I always thought factory 7-08 ammo would be easy to find. Still can't find brass anywhere, except the premium stuff.
