What wild plants do you eat? Recommend a good field guide.

I don't always go looking for them, but if I run across them I'll eat/pick up for later:
Muscadines
Blackberries
Dandelion leaves
Pecans
Wild onions
Persimmons

I'd love to go mushrooming (the food kind) but frankly I'm too scared to start. I also have read that there are wild mulberries in certain places but I've never run across them. Anyone on here make an effort to eat native plants ?

clover
broad leaf plantain

I'm fascinated with foraging. I wish I lived in a climate more suitable for it, like the Pacific NW.

Yes every time I eat a plant I say a prayer to Ferngully, the god of plants.

Eta: and curse my Christian upbringing.

Next time you make a salad, walk into your back yard and pick some clover

clover is sweet and tart, and quite delicious

it always freaks my wife out when I pick clover from the yard and put it in our salad

Mother earth supplies us with so many bountiful plants that we pass up. My diet consists mostly of prickly pear cactus fruit, jojoba seeds, and desert dandelions.

As a warning, many people who are new to foraging should avoid eating wild berries in large quantity until your stomach becomes acclimated. You will suffer from a runny stool if you dive in too quickly.

Bull thistle. You have to skin it if course. The stalk looks and tastes like celery.
