You are right, it was shite show. It will be forever remembered that way, just like this one, which is the point. Whether they recover and go on to get another coach is a completely different topic.
Agreed. Who knows who might be a good hire? Until a few years go by it is hard to judge that. But we can judge the process today.

They asked Mao or Chiang Kai-shek
Or someone, what he thought of The French Revolution . This was in the 1970's.
He said, "It is too early to tell."

waaaaaaaay too early to make a call.
fact.
plus, we really don't know what went on behind the scenes (even though some people like to act like they do). saban could have simply just used them and used the media storm, which looked like it delayed something) to "justify" his resigning with bama.
the fact is offering another coach before the present coach is gone is very, very, very bad business (like auburn discovered). saban could have waited a coupla more days if he wanted the tejas job; anybody saying different is espousing bull shite.

I still don't see how they've messed up this search. They moved Brown out (and it's not easy to move out a legacy; FSU and PSU couldn't do it) and now they're looking for a coach.

Depends on the objective.
The objective of most coaching hires is to get the right man for the job. Right now -- Unknown
The objective of THIS coaching hire is to prove how the longhorn coaching job is better than being GOD to get their brand back on track. A for effort, certainly. C for execution. If they get a big name hire, I will change my mind, but...
Won't matter. Big Twatever.

I'm going 9. At this point, they should just beg Mack to stay and take another run at Saban next year. I can't believe they ran Mack out and didn't, at least, have Mora or Peterson lined up. Just pathetic. Their fans must be so embarrassed.
Disagree.
They were ready to move on from Mack Brown. That was the important decision. They had to figure out a way of making that move happen and navigate through the political issues involved with that.
Now they are in the middle of a coaching search that will very likely land a very good coach, with an outside chance of landing a home run type of coach.
Your expectations that they would have had a coach lined up ready to take the job before they fired Mack Brown was unrealistic. That's not a standard you would hold any school to.

At this point, they haven't fricked up anything.
They moved out a successful. popular coach with as little blood letting as could be expected.
They didn't land Saban, which was a long shot at best, but there are a number of legit guys still in play. Its going to be awhile before this plays out.
I will wager Texas lands a better guy than Michigan, Tennessee, or USC did when they replaced successful coaches.
This crap is always a gamble.

10. It's horrible as it is, and I see it going to 'catastrophic' on a level that makes Jetgate look pleasant.
It's way too early. Let them hire Mike Shula. Then, we can laugh at them.

Right on schedule, according to plan. How could we be so dumb?

Notice how this board has really cooled down?

I'll bump this thread and give them an 9. Running Mack off just to get Charlie Strong for $5 million ($1.5 mil more than he makes at Louisville) is poor. Add in the PR disaster that this has been, and I think the brand of UT took a huge hit over this whole thing.

8. Charlie Strong? Really Texas?
