If by some chance Jarvis Landry was there in the second...
No way, he's a top 15 pick overall - he'll probably slide down to the 20s - OBJ will be drafted earlier I think, more versatility and is more flashy. Landry has some of the best hands and is flat out amazing after the catch. I'll be livid if they don't draft OL in the first round anyway. Trade up, something.

Trust me, I remember the a Saints history at QB. But we remember all time greats by championships won.
Brees is worth every penny he gets, not arguing that. I'd rather have a greater chance of my legacy being a multiple champion. He's already financially set for generations.
I don't remember Montana for his contract, but I know he won 4 superbowls. Bradshaw too.

He worked hard to get that contract. Let us not forget he QB'd the top offense more years than not making an average salary. Won us a Super Bowl, multiple years in the playoffs. He's worth the money he makes, even if he hasn't been playing his best this year, he's still top 5.

Not arguing that he isn't worth it. He is. More than anyone in the history of the organization. I'm just talking about legacy.
If Drew wanted to he could make up taking less money from the Saints with more endorsements. I'm sure there are countless business and products begging for Drew's face on their product.
I guarantee you 20 years from now we will remember Drew for his Super Bowl and records he has/had his name attached to, not his contract.

This is the same person that let his agent hold out on the contract to get more money. Yeah, no.
Not knocking him a person for doing that, football is a small window of opportunity. At the end of the day he is working for a living just like anyone else. It's a universal rule, no one is keen on pay cuts, why should he be?

Yeah, but you would want your legacy to be as a SuperBowl winning QB. I think Brees has loftier plans for his legacy with his political aspirations, which means the money does matter because it's not just more for the pile, it's more for the campaigns.

He's never had a problem with statistics and numbers. I am referring to some base QB fundamentals; overall accuracy, not spreading the ball around, and he's not as shifty as he once was in the pocket. He's still a remarkable player and yes, worth every penny.

Not hating. Just saying that I had enough money that my grand kids kids had to spend, money coming in from many many sources, I'd wanna win. Winning would be my main priority. Not saying it isn't his main priority bc it is. But put better players around me to help cement my legacy.

I'm fine with Brees taking whatever $$$ he is offered or can garner from this organization.
Just don't be surprised when your offensive line is average on a good day and you are getting put on your arse every other play.
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. While scientific in nature, I believe that saying holds true outside of that nature as well. You want $100 million? Cool, but the team's talent level will suffer because of it.

Brees was horrible yesterday and is in a close race with Romo for most overrated QB in the league.

That hodgepodge receiving corps now lacks a deep threat, and it's best producers, Colston and Moore are losing a step.

With Jimmy drawing double teams on almost every play, you would think Colston would be having a career year? Nope. Barring a couple of really big games, he wont make 1000yds this season despite staying healthy for most of it.
Colston was clearly playing through injury. Since being able to sit out in week 9 he has 37 catches for almost 500 yards and 4 TDs. That includes 2 games against teams that are top 5 in pass defense.

HAHA! 2nd in the league in Comp%, even with a bad game yesterday completed the ball to 8 different guys, and with that sad Oline we saw yesterday there are only 5 teams in the league with less sacks given up.

What do you think he should be paid?
Have you looked at the NFL market and come to a different opinion from the Saints FO?
If so please tell us.

Stupid, stupid thread.
Why didn't you bitch about how much he makes last week when he was tearing the Panthers a new one?
Oh, right, complain about the money when the team loses. It's all Drew's fault.
Yeah, and that Lombardi Trophy is his fault too. Damn slacker.

What's your alternative plan, genius? They never have one.
Because there is no alternative plan. You cannot let a QB of Brees level walk. Ever. But to succeed after the elite level contract, you have to draft well. We haven't been on the O side of the ball.

but Brees is able to wield it to our advantage much more often than he kills us with it
I will give you this...but yesterday was a huge game with Divisional playoff/home field implications. You simply don't take that chance with that field position. Look, I am a huge fan of Drew Brees and he deserves every penny of his contract. He is without a doubt the best QB this organization has had in it's history and that includes Archie. But you just can't make that throw in that big of a game. Too much on the line. All I'm saying is I expect better decision making in those situations for a player of his caliber.

People that bitch about the money he is paid have no clue. I bitch about the bad draft picks . You have to pay big for an elite QB. The staff got that one right. They just have to evaluate better for the draft. We can't continually miss on Offensive assetts when we are handicapped by the large salary hit an elite level QB brings.

Some QBs get paid for what they have already done ... Brady, Peyton, Brees, Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Eli, and now Flacco ... etc.
Others get paid based on expectations ... "Matty Ice", Romo, Bradford, Stafford, etc.
Brees is an Elite QB ... and, in my opinion, this is beyond dispute.
He should be compensated as such.
It shocks and sometimes angers people when a highly paid, elite QB ... has a particularly poor day. But ... it happens.
I would think that Mr. Benson would say that Brees has been worth every penny and then some.
