re: Les Miles is one of two coaches that will give Saban a run for his money

. Alabama's recent success is three fold, great coaching, favorable schedule and benefit of the voting. Sabear has had one undefeated season at Alabama.....let me repeat, Sabear has had ONE undefeated season at Alabama but you idiots think he is unquestionably the greatest coach of all time. In the middle of this great run, he was saddled with one tough schedule in 2010. They finished 9-3 and FOURTH in the SEC West. He's a great coach but he isn't any better than the coaches I mentioned above. All of them could at Alabama what he has done.
AMEN!!
What a lot of people forget is they should have never even played on 1/9/11 and we were 30 seconds from stopping them in 12. frick Bama

Miles and Saban have the same number of SEC titles in the last 7 years...Fact
And I can add that while NC's are superior to SEC titles, NC's are rarely undisputed while SEC titles are never disputed.
(It must be noted that Bama was the beneficiary of the biggest mulligan in CFB history in '11. And last year, if Chavis wasn't so adept at stopping Manziel Bama doesn't even make the SECCG.)
There are a lot of ways to compare Les-LSU with Saban-Bama. Until this year they had played 7X. If one had looked at the score there was one outlier (1/9). There was a cumulative 6 pt differential among the six other games, i.e., noise level.
But that all changed this year. Getting spanked by 21 pts and not even competing the entire 4th qtr shows we've got some catching up to do.
BTW, the OP, Spurrier hasn't had any problems keeping up with Saban.

On one hand, I like les Miles, on the other hand. It appeared that Saban had finally seperate Alabama from LSU completely in terms of ability , not talent.
Before the scoring had always been withing a touch down or single digits.
Now in 2011- We beat them at their house and it was back to back victory. We felt great....then Alabama somehow got a do over (We should have played one more after winner takes all to be fair)
Then in 2012, the tiger nation needed a victory against Saban. It was of the same intensity as 2007 where les mile had to really have that one. in 2012, he failed the Tiger nation.
The general pulse was while we gave Bama as good as we got, we still lost within the last 30 seconds. There was some disquiet and unease because that has been twice in a row now Saban had defeated LSU.
Then came 2013, we thought we would be at least competitive but no...Saban completely pulled away and gave Les Mile the knock out punch by yet another 21 points.
That does not sit right with a lot of folks. You have the talent, the kids are coming into the university. The margin base on ability alone between Bama and Alabama is negligible yet.... Alabama is riding high while LSU have yet another three loss, one to ole frigging miss.
Add to the fact that the last time we actually won a bowl game was 2010 season and there is a lot of unease amongst tiger fans.
However, I am hoping Les Miles pulls it together and bring back the powerhouses of the 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2011 type of squad because the 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013 would not cut it for long.

Not sure what you mean by this. At this point it is pretty apparent that Les, the fan base and the athletic department at LSU are all content losing 2-3 games a season (1 will ALWAYS be Bama until Saban retires) and going to mediocre bowls. Losing to Bama will never affect Les' standing. It's expected.
The best coach in cfb with the most talent, loses to a less talented team EVERY YEAR.

It's all about recruiting. We need to beat said coaches in that area first.

No doubt that Miles owns Saban.
Proven again this season when Miles beats Malzahn and Malzahn beats Saban.
It's elementary LSU/Les Logic.

Bama loses 3 games next year, book it. They still haven't stopped a competent DT/Running QB. If Manziel's defense was even the slightest decent, Saban has two loses.
We will probably lose 4 then

In your dreams.....Les Miles is a mid level coach at a top tier program....and as long as he is at LSU, we will dwell in the middle of the pack in the SEC West.....count on it!!

guys, chill, we have a team that is learning what it takes to be champions. The LSU program is in great shape, and Miles is a great coach.

Recruiting last three years: LSU avg 9th, Bama 1. Miles needs to get off his butt, spend the money bama does and get rid of coaches who don't recruit.

giving him a "run" isn't quite enough. If both of these coaches started off on equal footing, and comparable teams, NS will win 3/4 on the av. against LM. Miles is a good guy, but aint half the coach NS. Dont' see why this topic needs to be brought up again.
It's like everyone is trying to convince themselves, but avoiding the real truth...
And now we're losing players in state to "that guy". that should never happen, it it does tell you something...
it's a damn good thing LM has no other major university in the state to compete against.

And what people need to understand I will add is that LSU has hung with Bama head to head better than anyone in the SEC WEST with lower rated recruiting classes. And Alabama has great recruiting classes because of the perception that Saban is somehow better than any other coach. They go there despite the fact that he will treat them like numbers instead of people. THIS is what we are up against.
Give it a few years and Alabama is going to take a turn for the worse that they will NEVER recover from. I can't wait to see it happen.

Yet Les hasn't been mentioned in any other coaching vacancy since the michigan debacle in 2007. Reckon why that is?
Yeh two fold. One you have no idea what openings he is or is not considered for.
Two other programs might figure if his alma mater can't pull him out of LSU not once but twice he is not going anywhere.
