All kids don't live in Winnfield's assigned district.

Maybe he's talking about winnfield. Aren't they the only football school in Winn parish.
Well, I didn't want to name names, but yes, allegedly there are 3 high schools in Winn Parish that don't compete in football and Winnfield High supposedly is allowed to take students outside of their attendance zone if they declare that they want to play football (since it holds the parish's monopoly on football), and then those students also don't have to lose a year of eligibility either when transferring. In other words, they allegedly get the advantage of taking players from parish-wide and all of the school system's football resources are concentrated at Winnfield--instead of being split over 4 high schools. Does anyone know if this is all true? Seems to make Winnfield look like it is "selective" in its own way, at least when it comes to playing football. I know that Winnfield has been pushing for the split, but if this info is true, I guess I'm just confused as to how they aren't considered a "select" school themselves.

Don't know what the rules are in Winn Parish. They're may be some parishes that allow students attend a football school if their home school doesn't offer football. I am aware of some parishes that have closed attendance lines no matter.
The complaint public school have had over the years is that private schools attendance are open to all. I give this example, only for clarification and not to point fingers. In Shreveport Evangel, Loyola & Calvary can open its doors to students who live in other towns and parishes and even out of state. Its not secret that there have been student living in Texas attending Evangel in the past. Students can live in Minden or Haughton and attend Evangel. Public schools attendance zones do not allow this. Again, I have no dog in this fight, but am just explaining why public schools complain.
Private schools can't deny they have an advantage when it comes to having select students at their schools. Is it fair or unfair? That's all for the decision makers to decide. But it is an advantage.

You're right. Looked it up and Hahnville beat Evangel that year (2003). I'm thinking maybe Curtis did lose to Redemptorist or someone though. (Lutcher won that year too and I had an old t-shirt with the helmets of all the teams in the dome on it that I wore for years- my great research method but my memory is getting faulty).

there is a long line of Curtis' waiting to take over
Yeah, but I don't know that the younger ones will have the same focus on piling up wins at the HS level as he does. Or the same knack for doing it.

Yea I get what your saying but they make it sound like they are so bad off. But they are in a lot better situation than a lot of other schools are in parishes that have to divide the kids up between them.

I could win 12 games a year at Curtis right now... Of course j.t. Is j.t. Bc he can win 14 and 15

Dang, looks like another great game by the publics.
Sounds like it's been an excellent weekend of football from that side.

Private schools are held to the public school attendance zones that they are located in. For example, I'm guessing that Evangel is located in Fair Park High's attendance zone. Basically, if a student who doesn't live in Fair Park's district switches to Evangel, he or she is ineligible to play any sports and must sit out a year. In other words, there is little incentive for many kids to go to Evangel because they could lose a year of eligibility.
Rumor is that Winnfield High can take any kid in their parish without them losing a year of eligibility when they transfer. If that's accurate, then they were not as disabled under the LHSAA's previous playoff system as they were making themselves out to be.

Anyone know if/ when the split will affect other sports?

IIRC the other schools in Winn Parish are class B and C. It's not like there's a huge pool of talent Winnfield is drawing from.

Doesn't matter, if they get one extra kid they might as well get 100 according to the rules

If that is true Winnfields principal is truly despicable.

By definition this mean they weren't one of the two best teams in the State which means they had NO business playing for a State championship.
