Its all fun and games talking about Bama losing their coach, but now you're getting personal.

Nick Saban is no Sean Payton though - Texass is shooting for the starz!
Exactly, would/could they offer 12 million for a Sean Payton?

Everybody laughs, seems like a legit question with the numbers being thrown around at Saban
Head coaches of successful NFL teams don't leave to be coaches in college.

If you can win at the NFL level, why the frick would you go to the college level?
To make 10 million a year????

He makes more sense than gruden but I'm not sure he has an interest in college football when he has a couple year window remaining with the Saints to contend for a Super Bowl.
Anything is possible I suppose. I'd think from the point of view of Texas the more logical NFL coach to consider would be Harbaugh (if the rumors of him thinking about returning to college are to be believed). Harbaugh understands the college game including recruiting and that is not a given for Sean Payton.
And the money issue is a strange one. Just because Texas might throw upwards of 7 or even maybe 10 million at Saban doesn't mean they should throw equal or similar amounts of money to a different coach if they don't get Saban. Saban has shown (more than any other college coach today) that he knows how to build a championship program and win national championships at more than one school. Those credentials are currently unique and justify unique compensation.

No winning NFL coach is going to march into the owner's office in week 13 and say, "I'm going to the University of Texas."

Iirc Payton already makes $10million......say this out loud to yourself...."to get Payton to leave Texas would probably have to fork over upwards of $15million, all that for a guy who has never coached a down in major college football, never recruited high school kids, and then would be paying $10million more than the next highest paid coach"
Idea sound dumb to you??
They have a better chance of Darrell K Royal coming back to coach.

They could but the Longhorns would be competing for Payton's services in Texas with the Cowboys.
Jerry won't let himself get outbid on that one.

Payton should at least look around. Much better opportunities than the Saints in the NFL.

I'm just saying this thread isn't that far fetched when you're dragging numbers like 10 and 12 million into the discussion
And Sean makes roughly 8 million a year now

And probably has more job security than almost any coach out there while making that $8 mil/yr

How many NFL head coaches leave for other NFL jobs without being fired?

You folks who give any credence to this thread should go sit in a corner with a dunce cap on.

OK, highest paid successful pro coach making a lot of money, and in his off time, does what he wants, and trades that to have to be paraded around with big boosters like a shiny toy, and fly all over the country to hand hold 16 and 17 year olds......right, sounds like a good move to me

A totally hands off owner. A very competant and easy to work with GM. One of the best QB's ever. Depth and youth at most positions. A local press corps that is relaxed and unbearing compared to other markets.
Yeah...the Saints are a horrible job.

Nearly incompetent GM, decent owner, expiring QB, lack of quality at most positions, declining brand, finicky fanbase, low prestige, etc.
Texans would be an obvious upgrade.

Naw, but he'll prolly take the Bama job if Saban leaves
