Anyone ever get a second job for fun/different experience?

This is purely hypothetical and I probably wouldn't do it but I'm curious if anyone has done it, I'm young 20s with a good job with a large corporation.
Single, plenty of free time, but the corporate world can be mind numbingly boring at times, anyone ever get a bar tending job or something along those lines for fun.
Don't need the money, but it wouldn't hurt to sock more money away and have fun learning something different.

When would you sleep? You'd be working around the clock. Would only make sense if you needed extra money, which it sounds like you don't. If time wasn't a factor, then sure, it'd be fun.

Probably tough to find a bar tending gig only on weekends twice a month.

I work a set 35 hours/week. I'd love to tend bar 20-25 hours/week. Hard field to get in to though.

Myself and the wife both work fulltime jobs and we co-own a small business . She is a first responder ( volunteer ) with the local fire department , which she loves. My schedule wouldn't allow me to do an extra job, plus I like spending any extra time with my grandsons....but I've often thought of being an auxiliary cop..maybe one day

Hell no I don't like my first job why would I get a second job unless it was covering college or high school football for a paper, mag, or tv then it might be okay.

Bar tending is not as fun as you think.... It is very hard if you work at a busy bar

I wouldn't do it long term, but if you have a hobby that you could work retail to get discounts/talk shop it could be enjoyable.
Ex. Skeet range, Edwin Watts/PGA Superstore/Golfsmith, Tennis Shop, etc.
I like golf and wouldn't mind starting a little side business doing club work only because I'd like an excuse to buy all of the stuff to tinker with my clubs. I have no illusions that it would ever make any money though.

I work for the State of Louisiana and Canes. I'm doing this so I can afford my CPA program to progress my career. I had previously worked at Canes for a year and a half in Hammond and I enjoy the company very much. I understand it sounds stupid, but it is actually an enjoyable work environment.
That being said, I work 7 days a week and average around 9 hours a day, I'm burning out. You are using two completely different skill sets and two different sets of jargon, and when you get tired you find yourself accidentally using the wrong phrasing.
If you do this, make sure you have at least one day a week to decompress.

If you don't need the money (because it doesn't pay all that well)< I agree with getting certified to referee high school sports.
I've done it in the past - you get to work with jackasses just like in real life. $90 a game for football (usually can get two games a week, as junior high games are covered as well). Basketball you can make $100 a night officiating girls and boys high school games. \
My buddy's wife works about 10 hours a week retail to give her something to do, and to get a significant discount on crap - come to think of it, that job probably costs her more than she makes.

I continued my job as an baseball/softball umpire. Got a couple hundred bucks this summer doing it, but only worked weekends because the league was from my hometown an hour away from where i live currently. I still enjoyed it and it was nice $$$ for some of the bars I've hit up this fall

I am an adjunct at the local community college. One class a semester gets me about $600 a month. Doing it mainly to keep a foot in academia, since I work in industry. Never know when I might be out looking for a job.

When my mom was a journalist, she would often also teach classes on the side because she enjoyed doing so.

Plenty of 7-and-7 / 28-and-28 offshore folks do this. One of my friends was a highly paid drilling engineer and did substitue teaching on his days off. Another was a volunteer fire chief, and of course there are plenty of tradesmen as well.

As you are young and at your age doing jb for fun is the most enjoyable part as it has nothing to do with family responsibilities but the best part comes when you actually start enjoying your job and make a career out of it .

I work a 40-45 hour a week job that I enjoy and I spend every minute of my spare time reading, researching, or doing an enjoyable activity. I have contemplated adding a second job on the side but it would be a personal business that had a small clientele. I am not trying to interfere with my full-time job as I still have plenty of growth ahead in the field that I am in. My side job wouldn't be vastly different than what I do now, nor do I want to entertain the idea of being a bartender, referee, etc... I like working on computers, writing software, and studying data security. If I can grow within all areas I will be achieving life long goals along the way.
