First up on Freret is Mint Modern Vietnamese Bistro & Bar from first-time restaurateur Jimmy Tran. Located across the street from Dat Dog,

Burgers with kimchi and "chicken and green waffles," flavored with coconut milk and tropical pandan leaves to merge a soul food classic with a typical Vietnamese sweet treat. Mint will have a full bar.
Sounds like this is also going to be a trendy bar.
Pho Orchid too

Also set to open in December is the Uptown expansion of Pho Orchid, taking over the space formerly occupied by rather shortlived Le Viet Café.
Kind of sucks Le Veit didn't make it. I like that they opened at 10. Early enough to nip that hangover in the butt without having to start my day with a Westbank field trip.

Pho joints are popping up all over Tampa and the surrounding suburbs too.

sounds like it's going to be the La Thai of Vietnamese food. i.e. - expensive twists on what's supposed to be cheap ethnic comfort food.

Interesting. That's very close to Magasin. I know there are some empty spaces in that block but I haven't seen anything. Would love to have another option that close to home.

Man I am pissed the f off.
Than Truc shut down. I am yet to find a Bun dish as good as theirs, and I don't even know what to call the X1.
Sucks so bad. I went to the other Pho shop in Kenner and didn't like it at all, Frosty's Bun is just meh.
Short of driving to the wank or the East I really need to find a new place for my Vietnamese Vermicelli fix.

The Pho Bang in NOLA East is so damn good. For me it doesn't get any better, equal maybe but never better.

Never made it over to LV, never heard raving reviews.
This massive expansion will certainly be enjoyable to watch. It certainly can't hurt the consumer experience.

Never been but you are crawling out of your skin to see the expansion. Weird.
Nobody cares what you do or don't do. Shut up.
