You know I've never been to the Pho Bang on this side, only the one on Chef.

Isn't that near transcontinental?

I just liked having a place less than a mile from my house that I was a regular at. I take three weeks off going to try other places and go back and all the tables are gone and lights are off. I left a note on the door saying I would buy their speed racks and True coolers.

This thread encouraged me to conduct a little research.

Largest Vietnamese populations (US)

Rank City Number (2010) Percentage (2010) Comment
1 San Jose, California 100,486 10.6 City with the most Vietnamese Americans in the United States and outside of Vietnam.
2 Garden Grove, California 47,331 27.7 Part of Little Saigon in Orange County, California
3 Westminster, California 36,058 40.2 Part of Little Saigon in Orange County, California. City with the most Vietnamese Americans per capita.
4 Houston, Texas 34,838 1.7 Little Saigon in Houston is located in Midtown and growing population in Chinatown.
5 San Diego, California 33,149 2.5
6 Santa Ana, California 23,167 7.1 Part of Little Saigon in Orange County, California
7 Los Angeles, California 19,969 0.5 Located near Orange County, California
8 Anaheim, California 14,706 4.4 Located in Orange County, California
9 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 14,431 0.9 Largest community in South Philadelphia. Also, clusters in the Olney and Logan sections as well as parts of the Lower Northeast, Chinatown, and nearby Camden, NJ.
10 New York, New York 13,387 0.2 Growing enclave within Manhattan's Chinatown. Growing populations in Queens and the Bronx.

California must have the best Pho, but Houston can hold it down for the south.

Ba Mien

I used to eat there a good bit. They always had the craziest laser disks playing extended videos, but it was like live action videos.

I never tried pho there though. My favorite dish on that strip was Dong Phuong's birds nest vermicelli with the grilled pork. They gave very similar accoutrements that come with pho except it had large pieces of lettuce to wrap the noodle and pork mixture in. They served it with fish sauce to dip and all the fresh herbs to put inside. They started to call it pressed vermicelli, but last time I went I didn't see it at all. It was more of an angel hair then the dry noodle dishes, IDK.

Now it's Pho Bang for soup, and to crack the frick out on their egg rolls, every time unless we are getting Bahn Mi from the Phuong. Everyone says I have to try to steamed pork buns, but that shite freaks me out.

What? Not even close on a per capita.

ETA: I see somebody else posted stats.

ETA: Approx 14k in Orleans and 4 k in Baton Rouge definitely gives you the edge in population for LA. We still have better pho though.

Na, NOLA's cultural influences make the Pho better. NOLA has "Top Chefs" in the Viet category.

NOLA has 25,000 and they all live mostly in two areas.
One part of the east or the Gretna/Terrytown corridor.

So much so that when people had FEMA trailers, the info on them came in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.

We would be #6 on that list but when you consider NOLAs small population compared to those they have a large presence.

eta Louisiana has 25,000. Damn, I say the census is wrong because they usually have extended families in one house, lol

ETA: I have no doubt that the Triad is alive and breathing in NOLA. But your numbers are much higher than I've seen.

damn you really live up to the "poops on threads" name

go check my edit.

I did find this.

In the waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Vietnamese Americans have accounted for between 45-85% of the shrimping business in the region. However, the dumping of imported shrimp, ironically from Vietnam, has affected their source of livelihood

Austin also has a good vietnamese community and was the first place I tried Pho.

I knew Cali would have a lot of places. I just remember hearing that Versailles and Harvey had the largest per capita concentrations of vietnamese but I guess that was wrong.

Oh well. At least I know what I'm having for lunch. going to give the metaire Pho bang a try.
