Im in my 30's and have sat in the same seats my whole life. I can definitely agree that TV has changed everything. Going to a game in the late 80's, early 90's was a totally different experience, even when we sucked. Not much you can do...

Exactly... just enjoy it. I don't like what media has done to people as a whole...not just fans leaving early

I agree with the OP. I'm a La native that grew up in Ga. My first game, I drove 9 hrs to TS and sat in the rain to watch a Curley Hallman LSU team in a steady rain. I wasn't going anywhere. My cheap arse dad wouldn't get us cable till I was a jr or sr in high school. Yes, I missed a lot of televised ESPN games in the day, but my "fanhood" has a special strength from sitting at home with WWL on a sat night as a kid. Haven't gotten back to TS since '03 UGA. U can damn well I am prepared to lose a kidney this Saturday. I will get in to see my tigers. I can give a pass to elderly fans or those will small kids on the auburn game. But we need our student section to hang tough. Wear rubber boots. Ziploc your phones and spend the $5 on a poncho.

I well remember sitting in my backyard in Alexandria, Virginia, bundled up to fight the cold night air, nursing a bottle of Jack Daniel, chewing Red Man tobacco and straining to hear the very weak radio signal of WWL to follow the Tigers. Those nights were priceless.

however I do agree with your theory that greater tv coverage has made it far more convenient to watch from home.

Im 51 myself and I can agree, it was nice sitting in Tiger stadium with my ole timey headphones on cheering my butt off and listening to John Ferguson and Walter Hill over the radio. Man those were the days.

My dad used to listen to it when we lived in Youngstown, OH. I still listen to Hawthorn's call for baseball and football here in Houston.

There's no mystery here people. LSU fans have bragged about our devoted gameday fans but in reality we were among the last to embrace big $$$ pay to pee football and now that we have it this was always the predicted outcome. When paylots started booting out passionate tailgaters for the come late leave early crowd we started down the depressing path to becoming like everyone else.

In the next 5 years our downward spiral to sameness will have LSU fans mixing bourbon with Brawndo and our gumbo will be sponsored by Carl's Jr. If you don't know what I'm talking about perhaps you should have put on a helmet before riding your dirt bike off the roof of your trailer.

Excellent points. I can remember listening to the games on the radio on Saturday nights whether it be on my parent's porch, camping out at Money Hill, sneaking off to the car during wedding receptions to listen on the a.m. radio, etc. We were excited when a game would come on t.v. a couple of times a year and really ecstatic when we got to go to a game every year or so. (I loved watching my dad haggle over prices for the tickets).

I'm not going to criticize those who leave early. Heck, it seems like half-time lasts about an hour now so they can get an episode of a highlight show in. Add in all the t.v. time outs and stoppages , etc.

(And I have to commend you for actually offering a reason. About 95% of the discussion on here from the people who do leave early is just to criticize the people who don't go at all - which is not really anything to do with why they left early at all if you think about it).

Next time pay attention when they show the student section. Literally 6 out of 10 kids are on a cell phone.

The doddering fools in the 100 and 300 sections (the ones that come at all) either don't know how to use them or are too busy sitting on their hands and whining about every play.

How many of you remember going to the games back then when there were no "TV Timeouts"? The game had pace and swings in momentum were more intense because the teams didn't have to stand around and wait for the cameras to come back before the next series.

Fact is that football.has become less entertaining. Too much stopping and starting.

57 here, yeah dude I recall going during 60,s games as a youngster with my dad when they all started 8PM! Don't remember him ever saying lets go to beat traffic, and would get home after 1am back to NO. You're right the games back then were more flowing with no tv time outs and even during my years through the 70s. The media coverage has definitely changed things but still it is what it is and right now just enjoy the success and let people do as they have to (leave early). BTW, I stayed whole game Sat. but that is my right just like their right to leave early if desire!
