I bought an investment house and the back yard wasn't cut for about three years.
It's got tons of small scrub trees and bushes. Not really much grass at this point.
Any ideas?

After you kill it you will still need to remove it right? So just remove it without spending the $ on chemical.

If spraying is the route ya wanna take, 3oz Roundup and 2-3 oz of 2,4-D per gallon of water
ETA: may not completely kill small trees, but will knock the shite out of them and defoliate them rapidly
