If going to Sonoma Valley for beer, you really should stop by Lagunitas Brewpub in Petaluma. Great beers.

Hit up the Taylor Street Coffee Shop for breakfast. Just go early because the line forms out the door nearly every day.

Also, if you're in the mood for a cheap, fast food burger, skip In and Out and go to Super Duper instead.

I will be out there the week before the Moo State game. We will be in wine country Saturday. Anyone have a recommendation for a place on Sonoma or napa to watch the game ?

If you want a killer Pacific sunset view, you could do worse than the Cliff House. Yes, it's touristy, but if you eat in the bar, you won't need a reservation and can enjoy the view of Seal Rocks, the sun, etc for a fraction of the price of the dining room and get a nice burger to boot.

My SF faves include Aziza: LINK / "modern Moroccan" with a Michelin star, and Quince/Cotogna (the first is prix-fixe, Mich-starred, the second is a more casual Italian cafe by the same chef, Michael Tusk): LINK /

We were out in June and went to a couple of amazing dinners:

Benu - incredible 15 course tasting menu. We did the wine and beer paring as well. At just under a grand it was the most expensive 2 person dinner i've ever had, but worth it as the experience and preparations were absolutely unique.

Akikos sushi on Bush St. - this was our friends favorite sushi joint. We got the local treatment and they brought plate after plate of some of the best sashimi i've ever had. Finished it off with kobe beef topped with truffles.

Will you be there still sunday for the saints game?

If so 1000000% you must go here for the saints game, Black Magic VooDoo Lounge

It is the most intense saints viewing experience I have ever had, you will feel like you have teleported into a bourbon street bar for a few hours.

Be prepared to stand in wall to wall people in saints gear, singing and cheering the entire time.

Downtown Joes in Napa is OK for gamewatching. Most restaurants out there are too upscale for gameday.

There's an SEC group out there that just goes to each other's houses for gamewatching. Most are in the wine biz so they have awesome food and wine.

I went there too. That's a rocking place. Games start early on the West Coast. Be prepared for early imbibing.

Restaurant Gary Danko is supposedly the best place in SF. I couldn't get a reservation. I did try la folie'. French restaurant. Very nice, but pricey. I enjoyed it a lot. They do an escargot dish where the snails are cooked and served inside of a veal bone. Fantastic.

Heaven on earth, IMO. All the dining suggestions so far have been spot on, and I'll second Casanova specifically.

Also, Bicyclette is a great casual spot.

I need a suggestion for Asian or Asian Fusion in San Francisco. Traditional Chinese, Thai, and or Vietnamese.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. My week is filling up with restaurants.

Slanted Door is pretty popular/trendy Vietnamese place in the Ferry Building. I'll be there that Friday night if you want to double date and pickup the tab...

Dean, have you ever been to BeerCraft outside of Santa Rosa? A friend just went to Russian River and thanks to a rec from staff at RR he stopped at this place on the way back. He said it was awesome. Picked up some Abyss, Black Butte XXIV and XXV, and some Lost Abbey, Drake's, Alamanac, etc.

I have not. BUT, I'll be on the look out for it next time I pass through. Problem is I normally blow my wad at RR, and then come home broke.

I am planning a RR trip prior to going to LA in October.
