Amen to that. I live near vets/transcontinental. That place is garbage.
Which is why I go to zapardos across the street. I love that place, but that's another thread

Rouses is the best grocery store La. has to offer hands down! I fully support 1-3 of them being built in the Baton Rouge area. They would make a killin!

I have the latter.
Which one?

Never been in Rouses. What makes it that much better than a Calandros, Alexanders or LeBlancs?
Is it just a larger version of those with a little more selection in the aisles?

The Village East Rouses in Houma I think its store #3 or 4 is the one that got the ball rolling for them. A few years after that one was built the opened the one near the mall and they have been rolling ever since.

It's larger and nicer than Calandros. More of a selection. The newer ones are comparable to whole foods in "some ways" but at better prices.

quote:Have these guys redone their small aisled store yet. I know they were, at one time trying to buy up the land around them to rebuild but the fella with the used car lot next door was cock blocking them. Peter needs to get on the stick and writ that check!

Plans for the first Baton Rouge location of Rouses Market have been submitted, although the anticipated opening date is still yet to be determined.
The Thibodaux chain submitted plans with the city-parish Planning and Zoning Office for a 55,545-square-foot store on Airline Highway, between Baringer Foreman Road and Highland Road. T
he store will be one of the retail anchors of the Long Farm Village development.
Donny Rouse, managing partner of Rouses, said the grocery store is still waiting on Antioch Road to be extended from Jefferson Highway to Airline Highway before finalizing its plans for the Long Farm location.
Rouses has been building stores in its new upscale format in cities throughout the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast in recent years, although Baton Rouge remained without one. Rouse has said the independent grocer wants to ultimately have three stores in the Baton Rouge area.
Rouses has nearly 40 stores in Louisiana and Mississippi, including 10 in metro New Orleans and two in the Lafayette area.
Plans for the Rouses store are set to go before the Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 21.

Rouse's will be going head to head with Alexander's with the location where they are going. Don't think thats a very smart move. Alexander's for the win!!!!

Rouses is just a grocery store, the one in New Orleans and one in Thibodaux off Canal is nice but they have nothing that Alexander's doesn't and Leblancs has been upgrading their store. Hell new Ralph's on Airline is going to be similar to Rouses and the rest, only so much you can do with a grocery store.

I'm glad someone else noticed the narrow aisles. The chicken jalapeño sausage is good though.
And if Rouses is waiting on the state to extend Antioch Alexander's has nothing to worry about. That will take a decade.

Probably their best choice as they have less competition

Well I'd venture to guess the Antioch extension and the building of Juban Crossing will be a close race.
