What is your opinion on how well the Oline run blocked?

Overall I think they did well.
However, I was a little concerned about the number of runs that were blown up in the backfield or for no gain. Of course this was probably just because TCU was selling out to stop the run but I'd like to hear others thoughts.

They were selling out. Look who had those tackles: LBs and safeties

I think part of it was they were just stacking the box. You're blocking with fewer men than they have sometimes. But the run blocking wasn't nearly as good as the pass blocking. Needs some touch up for sure.

this. BUt we also ran a lot in formations that screamed hey theres no way we are gonna pass it here!!

Considering how many times they had to block an 8-man front on plays forced between the tackles, they did fine. A toss sweep or some stretch plays off tackle would be a nice chance of pace.

This. When LSU spread TCU out a little, they gashed them with some big runs. Our inside the 5 woes can be solved if we abandon the jumbo set and run out of regular 2/3 WRsets.

Or the "woes" will be solved when we actually get back one of the 5 best RBs in CFB who can actually make people miss and break tackles.

Running game is predictable. Teams stack the box because of all of our tight formations. Blocking will suffer when you combine the two.

I was listening to their feed and they were saying their D was shifting when the ball was snapped often causing missed blocks and plus they had nine in the box a lot. Alexander blew their guy up several times on for huge gain and one for a TD.

The run blocking was fine. TCU called a number of run blitzes where a player shot through every gap. In the future, if Mett audibles to the right play we can burn that.

I don't think they did great but wore TCU out towards the end. The push out of the I form just wasn't there. Much better out of the shotgun but against elite SEC teams, you have to be able to run out of multiple formations to truly keep them honest.
Not irreparable though. Can be fixed especially with this offensive staff who appear to fix the fundamentals pretty quickly.

I was surprised that they stuck to stopping the run while we dismantled their db's. I kept waiting for the middle to soften up.

They absolutely sold out and were stubborn with it. Gary Pattersons personality really comes out in how his team plays.
They were pinching hard and LB's were diving in at linemen's feet to clog up the middle.
There were some missed blocks and we got beat off the ball at times run blocking, but that's just going to happen when a team sells out like that. Right now I don't think we really know how good we are until we face a team who feels they can man up with their front four and respect the passing game.
Mettenberger showed the entire SEC something though so I expect our running game to open up.

I thought we were pretty mediocre in run blocking but probably because that was expected to be the o-lines strong suit coming into the season. The guys more than made up for it in pass protection, however.

I was pleased with the running game. Tigers appeared to be more effective when running out of the spread than the I but TCU was stacking the box all night.
