I would put Marciano on there before Ali. He was the only heavyweight champion to retire undefeated.

it was hard to choose between phelps and Thorpe, but look up thrope and really understand what he did and the variety of sports he excelled in and its an easy call.


The Mountrushmore means you have to be ICONIC as well as dominant...all three of Ruth, Ali and MJ transformed their sport and transcened them at the same time

I agree with the criteria, but how did MJ transform basketball as a sport? He expanded its popularity worldwide, which is obviously huge, but did he chagne the way it was played? He didn't usher in a new era of play.

If changing the way the game is played is the prerequisite then Pete Maravich should be on there. He was way ahead of his time.
