Kobe Bryant has long maintained that winning a title is his only goal for each and every season. The All-Star guard has talked about playing at least three more years, to pad his "ring count."

Would he be willing to take a pay cut, like Tim Duncan did for the San Antonio Spurs or Kevin Garnett for the Boston Celtics -- both taking less than half of their maximum salaries?

How far would Bryant go?

Would he make the most dramatic financial sacrifice conceivable in 2014, taking a one-year minimum salary of $1.45 million to give the Lakers their absolute best chance to rebuild quickly in the wake of Dwight Howard's departure?

If Bryant is willing to make a sizable leap of faith, the Lakers might have the tools they need to manipulate the salary cap -- within the rules -- to an extreme advantage.

After a year with Bryant at the minimum, the Lakers would still have his "Bird rights," enabling the team to pay Bryant a maximum salary of $19.5 million for the 2015-16 season.

Averaged over two years, Bryant's sacrifice would be $10.5 million a season.

Kobe Bryant's drive can only be defeated by his ego, so I wouldn't expect it.

It could happen. Miami's big 3 could do the same thing, though, to allow them to add another superstar like Melo.

Could he? It's possible I guess.
Will he? Probably not.

Not sure if a minimum contract will be able to support his love for forcing himself upon white women.

I don't know if the minimum is necessary, but he should take a big pay cut.

He wouldn't and to be honest he probably shouldn't. Taking a voluntary cut in pay isn't going to guarantee anything.

No shot in hell Kobe takes that kind of pay cut even if it is for one season. Why in the world would he take $1.45 million to help the Lakers when he will prob only be playing ball for a couple more years?

This dude's analysis makes no sense.

This will be a big deal when it comes to pass. Hopefully he takes a modest but not ridiculous 2-3 year deal. If he took the minimum ppl would say he cheated to get a title. If he took a big contract ppl would (deservedly) call him selfish. Either way he needs to have made his money by now. He should be willing to sacrifice a bit this time for the lakers.

Kobe playing for the minimum would be good for LA, but will he?

That's the gist of the article?

Least insightful article ever!

I thought it was unamerican to take a pay cut like the big three in miami did to win titles.
