Jason's on Sherwood is pretty good.

Chuck's is horribly overpriced.

Collecting cards is a great idea. For kids. Who don't plan on making any money off of them.

I need 4 common cards (hard to find) to complete a set of 1958 Topps and the Willie Mays card ($$$$) to complete my set of 1954 Bowman.

You need to have a focus or you'll get overwhelmed. There's no way you can get everything, and there are a lot of cool sets out there.

I collect Topps base & Braves autographs and they to stuck to that. (Its hard.)

If you're collecting with you're son, you might want to try Topps Opening Day, a series aimed at kids. Its cheap, a dollar a pack, available at Target, Kmart & Walmart, and has fun things like mascot cards or goofy dugout shots in them. The drawback is they use the same card images as Topps base, though.

Another option is Panini Triple Play. Its also cheap and aimed at kids. They have stickers, tats, and eyeblack included in packs. The player images are drawn, which may be a turn off to some, but I like the look.

Have fun!

I have somewhere between 25k-30k cards from the 80's and early 90's. Only ones worth a shite (that I am aware of) are ones from earlier in the 80's like Cal Ripken Jr rookie card (I think it has a couple of other guys on it as well, Tops).

I have a frickload of those 1986/1987 rookie sets (Donruss the Rookies, Tops and Fleer update sets) the ones with Bonds, Bo, etc rookie cards. I have unopened boxes from the late 80's, factory sealed sets, anything and everything from that era.

Alll fricking near worthless.

Oh yeah, I have about 100 random common cards from the 50's and 60's. I traded a Mark McG 1985 OLMPY card for all of them years ago (still have another complete '85 OLYMPY set). Those common cards are probably worth about as much as the other 25k cards combined now.

I'd love to get back into it to collect with my son if there was a decent card shop around. I'm not driving to Chucks in Albany.

Primetime Sports collectibles on Sherwood. Also has a lot of former LSU players signing autographs. Even had Pete Rose in there last year.

If you're trying to collect as an investment, you need to collect the old stuff (pre-1960s). Limited quantity/quality makes it more collectible, but hard to find good deals that you can make any money off of. The newer stuff is overproduced and made to collect, so will never be valuable. If you just want to have fun with your kid, then get the new stuff. Easier to find and affordable and your kid probably cares more about current players he can watch than old farts like mickey mantle.

My little brother got in to football cards again. He's sold some Lucks, RGIIIs, and even a Tannehill rookie for $50+ on eBay.

I think he's still not doing much but breaking even.

There's way too much going on in cards now for my liking. Maybe in 200 years my life collection might be worth more than $100.

My dad has the factory Topps set every year since I was born in 1982. He just kept buying them, even after I stopped collecting cards. I was around 15 when I stopped. We used to go to Houston to the big card shows in the George R Brown Convention center. My mom would drop us off and go shopping, and we'd spend all day there. Great memories.

I was always a Topps fan. I've looked recently at the values of some of the 1973 Topps cards for a set my dad was putting together individually. Cards have lost a lot of value in the last 20 years.

Nice, isnt there a Babe Ruth card in that set? Is Dizzy Dean the hardest to find?

I've got a thousand Topps cards from the 50s and 60s. They will not be worth much till they're 100 years old. Will give them to my grandson and let him decide what to do long after I'm gone.

Unless you mean baseball cards in general and group all cards into this category and have some Michael Jordan rookies or collected football the year Marino, kelly and elway came out. Also if you collect with your son and might want to try to make some money go with basketball cards I think its easy to get rookies and they do rise in value faster. Plus its easier to track their rookies than baseball. First time I collected basketball cards I got a ray Allen rookie signed in green ink. He signed in 2 different colors and I just happened to pick a pack with the most rare of his rookie signed card. Sold it on the spot for 300. Bought me a donruss Barry sanders rookie with some of that.was so pissed when he retired lol. Bastard could have built me a house.

easily found for 15 bucks on eBay unless you've got a graded PSA 10.

I had a box with maybe 5,000 from the same era. Could've gotten $1 per thousand from a dealer. Took me awhile to even find someone to take it off my hands for free. I've got probably the same amount of NASCAR cards that I'm going to do something with one of these days too. I have no emotional attachment to the stuff and it just takes up closet space.

I stopped collecting a long time ago, but I still have a Phil Niekro rookie card, Dale Murphy rookie, Frank Thomas rookie, lots of Chipper Jones rookies (some signed), Derek Jeter rookies, and a Kirby Puckett rookie.
