Can't wait to try that one.
I'll drop a box in the mail this week. I have 4 or 5 things that you haven't tried yet, so it should be a decent box.

Just poured our first pours of our pale ale. This was our 2nd homebrew. Brewed with citra and mosaic and dry hopped with citra. We didn't take gravity readings but we think it's around 4% ABV based on brew pal.
We really really like this one. Very happy with it and excited about it. This one is way better than our first.
Thanks to all of y'all for the advice the past few times we've asked questions.

Over thanksgiving I had 3 beers either on tap or bottled. I bottled my IPA and it came out great. One of my favorite beers I've ever made. Honestly, slap a brewery sticker on it and you'd believe it.
On tap I had two that were just okay. I think the black ale I had was just needs some more time. As the week went on, it began to taste better and better. Then I did a pumpkin ale but I cut some corners and it showed.

Is a refractometer worth the money or will a hydrometer work just as well?
I found one on sale for $25 and from what I've read its not worth using after fermentation due to skewed readings. Do y'all just use the hydrometer at the end?

Refractometers are great. Find a cheap dual scale one on eBay. I don't bother with them post fermentation at the moment but I'll give it a try here pretty soon. I think there are conversions for post fermentation that make them just as accurate then as a hydrometer

Sweet. I'm going to order one then. If anyone is interested here's the sale LINK

That might just be a brix. Might want to look into dual scale with Brix and SG.

Dropped in second round of dry hops this morning into the Pliny clone

Can you convert brix to SG?
Posted on 12/1/14 at 8:17 pm to Chatagnier
Yes. Easily. Just pointing that out.

Mine is only Brix and I think it is fine. I will say that the easy conversion is not exact, but it is fine for me. The easy conversion is Brix X 4.4 gives you the SG, but as the SG gets higher that formula gets less exact. You can convert Brix to Plato and Plato to SG which is much more precise, but I am too lazy to do that.

Right. I've seen lots of talk about corrected scale refractometers and I'm sure there are some online converters or Beersmith will correct it for you.

I don't have much to add, other than to say that the more beer I brew, the less I care about what my FG is, or even if I hit my anticipated OG. I forgot to check the FG on the 2 beers I kegged last week, and it really doesn't matter, because they taste great.

I'm the same way. Pretty lax about FG readings.

Been using the binary FG system a lot.
0 = contains no alcohol
1 = contains alcohol
Every beer I've brewed has registered a 1.

I forgot to check on both batches for Brew at the Zoo... then they were in the keg, so I wasn't going to break it open and check. I guess I could have poured some into a tube before it was fully carbonated. In the end though, I had a pretty good idea of the ABV.

I check pre-boil, the OG, and the FG. One, I am still learning my system and dialing it in a bit. Two, I just like to check. I like having numbers to quantify the qualities of the beer.
Ever since the Clusterfrick and Berliner Weiss brews, I can't say that I have worried about what those numbers are, just made note of it.
as far as which tool to use, I'll stick with the one I can use before and after fermentation

Haven't posted here in a while. Haven't been able to brew since my boy was born 2 months ago. I think my last brew was late August.
Question: What is the best kegerator setup to buy at an affordable price? Looking into them for Christmas, and was looking for a dual tap kegerator. Looking for one that is complete, so all i have to do is put together and plug in.
