Why exactly do so many fans hate Lebron James?

Is it all because of "the decision"? Kobe is pretty much an a-hole and doesn't get nearly as much negative attention. Can't remember Jordan getting any of this and he was the biggest a-hole of all. I think only Boston fans disliked Magic. Why is Lebron such a target?

quote:The answer you will see is, " Because he isnt the GOAT!!!!!!" Which yes, i will agree, but he is an elite player who at the end of his career has a chance to be one of the greatest. If we are going to hate people for not being the GOAT when they aren't even finished yet, then technically we should hate every player in every sport

ETA: Or they will say because of his arrogance in the decision. Which once again, if that is the case you should also hate every good NBA player as well

When Kobe was considered the best in the game, he definitely got tons of hate. Just ask unknownknight.

He got a good bit of hate.

Because he's currently the best in the game, and it's easier for people to voice their opinion in this day and age.

Because people let ESPN think for them.

I for one hate the flopping and whining.
Especially from probably the most physically gifted player in the history of basketball.

My reason for disliking him is based on how he has handled himself.
I understand that to a degree, you cannot control the media hype/swirl around you, so I do not hold that against him, although he played a part in it.
The first thing that really started to rub me the wrong way was when DH was in the dunk contest, and he acted like a jilted lover. He announced that he was going to enter the dunk contest and do it on a 13' foot goal, etc, etc, only to back off of his "commitment" the following year.
The next incident was when KD won his first scoring title I believe, and Lebron put out a comment about how he could win it every year if he wanted to, but he was more worried about his team's success. Why did he fell the need to say anything? Jealousy and acting like a women.
Also the whole taking shots at Stephon M's shoes, even though the man was only marketing an affordable shoe to lower class kids, and even though Nike is notorious for their sweat shops and overpriced products.
Of course "The Decision" didn't help.
There many incidents like this that turned me off of him. He seems like he always wants the attention on him, but only when its good, he doesn't want the bad attention, just the good attention.
JMHO

First of all, I don't hate him. He's the best player in the world right now. I respect his talents.
The decision didn't help though. I thought it was ridiculous. I don't care if he gave money to charity, he does that all the time. His constant crying to the refs and not getting back on defense is annoying as frick. And of course, the obvious flopping. Best player on the planet shouldn't be doing that. It's more of a feeling of annoyance and disappointment for me. Not hate. Although I do love a good Lebron joke.
I hate the Heat as a team though. Can't stand the annoying bandwagon fans and D Wade has become a bitch. I used to really like him.

I don't hate him, but it is pretty easy to see why many do.
1. His fan boys insist on trying to claim him as the goat, which is silly.
2. The decision.
3. Flopping
4. Incidents like the mocking cough shite he did in reference to Dirk.
5. His tendency to come up small in big spots (although this may be over blown).
I think Lebron is easily the best player in the game today and by a pretty wide margin. I am neither a fan nor a hater which leaves me a great position to enjoy his spectacularly good play and his spectacular failures.
Lastly, I think people hate Lebron fans and bandwagon Heat fans more than they hate Lebron.

I don't hate LeBron, but I wasn't a fan of "the decision". I do despise Kobe, however.

Kobe got plenty of hate
Magic and Jordan weren't in a world of twitter and message boards. Hard to compare.
Lebron is a target because he is high profile. That's not to say the hate isn't justified. There's plenty of things to latch on to:
-the decision television program
-running to Bosh and Wade to get a title
-the flopping
-the whining
-he seems like a real dummy
-throws teammates under the bus

quote:One reason is because he got a tattoo when he was probably 16 or 17 that he has been quoted as saying something to the effect of he regrets and it was foolish, but 30 and 40 someting year old dudes still can't get over this tat a 17 year old got around 10 years ago.

The short answer is because he hasn't shut the critics up with wins.
The long answer is that LeBron's success failure stands for so many things. Not only is there the GOAT argument, but fans of teams in small markets, over half the league, desperately want to see the Spurs model beat the Big 3 model. And on top of all of those external issues LeBron has become a proxy argument for, there's the fact that he's under achieving. With the physical tools he has we should not be debating whether or not he's the new GOAT, we should be marveling at his greatness like we did with Jordan.

His attention whoring (chalk toss cough cough) and the Decision. Especially the Decision. Most ridiculous exercise in vanity I've ever seen. His sense of self-importance was just laughable and I still can't believe he did that. Nevermind the palpable vapidity of the whole affair.
He has come a long way, though. He's generally a good role model for kids, never gets in any trouble and avoids outside drama, and his work ethic and will to improve are admirable.

quote:Jordan's assholery, rightly or wrongly, was less covered due to a different media age. Also, the media, maybe accurately, would blame his a-hole tendencies on his uber competitive drive, thus diminishing it as a negative trait.
Can't remember Jordan getting any of this and he was the biggest a-hole of all.
Jordan was also less self conscious and didn't come off as trying as hard as Kobe and Lebron and Dwight Howard do.

The style and way that the sports media covers him
IMO it's not him that ppl dislike. It's the way that he is portrayed by the media, meaning the constant stuffing down fans throats that he invented basketball

I haven't liked him since he was on the cover of sports illustrated in high school. I don't like all the self hype, I don't like all the media attention that is put on one player. I don't like how everyone is trying to crown him as the Goat, when he's not even halfway through his NBA career. I think he's a great basketball player, but he looks and acts fake. He just gets on my fricking nerves.
