I think LSU has a luxury right now with 4 quality starting pitchers. Bonvillian bring the 4th. Mainieri's confidence showed with him starting the SEC tournament championship game. I could see Bonvillian getting a start in the CWS. I could also see Nola come back in the 3rd game of the championship series for an inning if need be like Coleman did.

Best case scenario Nola loses Game 1.

Yeah I like that. Win game one of championship series and we're in control with Nola still left.

If it were me:

Game 1: Nola (Sunday)
Game 2: Glenn (Tuesday)
Game 3/4 : Eades (if its a Thursday)
Game 3/4: Nola (if its a Friday)
Game 5: Bonvillain (Saturday)
Game 1 of CWS Finals: Glenn (Monday)
Game 2 of CWS Finals: Nola (If lose game 1)
Game 2 of CWS Finals: Eades (If win game 1)
Game 3 of CWS Finals: Nola (If necessary)

I might want to start someone else for game 1... I don't want to be in the losers bracket with Nola used up.

basically i'd ride Eades and Glenn and Bonvilian until I got in an elimination game

Lol. You must not understand much about any baseball tournament if you think Mainieri showed confidence bc he started him in the championship game. Not saying he isn't confident in him, but you don't get an unlimited amount if pitchers. He had to use the best of the rest my dude, not who he thought he was confident in.

It's all about pitching matchups. Nola goes Game 1 because UCLA will throw their ace and you want to stay in the winner's bracket. If we win, then I would throw Glenn on Tuesday because Eades has been shaky and you could get through the tournament with two starters if you keep winning.

By Friday, your opponent will be throwing their ace again, so send Nola out and hope that the teams in the other bracket are doing the same and throwing their aces on Friday.

If you win on Friday, then you throw Glenn against the other team's number 2 for the first game of the championship series and go from there.

Of course, this is all based on Glenn not looking rusty in practice this week and Eades continuing to struggle with his mechanics. Glenn looked like our number 2 starter before he was suspended. CPM will need to decide if Glenn or Eades is throwing the ball better this week.

Ranaudo started games 1 and 3 to get us into championship series and then started game 3 vs. Texas. 6 days b/w starts 1 and 2 and 5 days b/w starts 2 and 3. Ranaudo did only get us to the 4th vs. UVA in game 1 though.

Ranaudo had 5 days between the first two games and 4 days between the 2nd and 3rd.

I assume Mainieri would play it the same way with Nola, but a few things are different that could affect his decision:
1. Our first game is Sunday so it takes one extra day of rest off the top.
2. He probably feels more confident in his 3rd or 4th option this year than he did in 09, but not as confident in his 2nd option as 09.
3. We have a deeper bullpen than we did in 09.

Ideally, Nola starts Sunday, Friday, Tuesday because we're up by 10 runs in each game and he only throws 60 pitches per start.

Why is everyone saying Sunday? We're playing on Saturday and he's throwing game 1.

Best case: Nola throws two games (Sunday & Friday) and we go 2-0 without him in the championship series.

My fault, we are playing Sunday. It must have changed since last night.
