If Burke falls to 6, do you think Monty/Dell will take him?

Say the draft goes something along the lines of

1. Noel
2. McLemore
3. Porter
4. Bennett
5. Oladipo

So you're looking at the likes of Len, Muhammad, Saric still hanging around. Does the FO take Burke or trade the pick or go SF/C?

This isn't a question of whether you want them to take Burke. It's do you think they will.

I think it's too early and we'll see guys rise like Lillard and Waiters did last year. CJ McCollum is a name getting lots of buzz, and I already started a thread on Kentavious Caldwell-Pope who I think could be Klay Thompson like. I think who the Pelicans take could be dependent on what they think the future is for Gordon and Rivers and how well a particular guard would pair with them.

You take Burke and move on. BPA, IMO.

I'm going under the assumption that Gordon stays at least up till the trading deadline and that they are still breeding Rivers to be the PG, but I definitely agree that a lot hinges on those assumptions.

I don't think the draft pans out like I have it, TBH, for the reasons you stated...McCollum is flying up the boards and there will be others in the coming months. But that's just kinda what most mocks have right now...or at least the last time I cared to check

Unfortunately, that's not how they are viewing this draft. They are going to lean towards need before BPA. So unless their guy is picked before 6, they won't be looking to take bpa.

KCP reminds me of a Brandon Roy.

I don't agree with that at all. Their games are nothing alike.

No.

I bet they would explore a trade. Utah is a team I could see trying to move up. No PG and picks 14 & 21.

Demps and Williams already came out and said they're happy with the position and expects a very good player to be there when they pick. Unless a deal is just too good to pass up, I don't see them aggressively looking to trade down.

Although, I would love to do a deal with Utah as long as they include one of their young big man.

imagine if they came out and said "We will be looking to trade the pick." the offers would be far less appealing than if they say "we see a lot of good players at this position."

just a thought as to why you should take what they say about the draft with a grain of salt.

Highly unlikely, just because of the same defensive problems that Vasquez has

They didn't really have to make such an optimistic comment. They could have easily said a lot of different things that isn't considered negative. They've done so in the past. In 2010, Williams didn't show much optimism for the draft and we eventually traded back.

They've also never been secretive nor have they shown many misdirection in the past. We knew they wanted to get longer a year or so ago and they went on and stressed it over and over. and guess what? That was what happened.

We knew they loved Rivers. And they took him. We knew they wanted a back up PG for Paul. And they went out and got one in Bayless/Jack. We knew they wanted to add help for Paul, and they went out and got Ariza.

This front office has been really open with their direction. I don't see why it's any different today.

They'll take the BDPA. (Best Defensive Player Available)

Actually, I think our need at SF> need at C > need at PG.
I think that will come into play and why I think we might get Len or Saric and not Burke.

Meh. I hope you don't really believe that. Anything can happen.

And McCollum could be another trade up candidate if he falls to 6. Hornets could be moving down.

At one time I thought so, but now I'm not so sure. Maybe because I've been reading too much about Burke's liabilities (although I do think he has an NBA career ahead of him).

I really have been down on Shabaaz, but maybe they think they can do something with him. I wouldn't be shocked with Len or Saric or a trade.

IOW, I don't know.
