that's a lot of strike outs.
That's what I said.

Even with Laird's struggles at the plate, he still brings more to the lineup than Stevenson while little to no drop off in CF.
Just get him out of the freaking #2 spot in the lineup.

FIELDING IS NOT THE ISSUE!!!!!!!!!!!!
There were some misplays out there this weekend, especially on a few of those triples. Not errors neccesarily but just bad angles and such.

But not the issue right now.
Even with those mistakes, we couldn't score 3 more runs on Saturday after 14 hits and 3,492 LOB. If we can't bring RISP home, what the frick are we doing here captain? (About to go Duffy)

I understand that but we took some bad angles to balls this weekend. That triple in the 9th inning Saturday in no way should have gotten all the way to the wall. If it doesn't turn into a triple, maybe they don't score and we win in extras or something. Like someone said earlier, it's a tough decision because clearly our two best defensive outfielders are the two weakest hitters.

They without a doubt would have scored that inning even if that ball had been a single.

You don't know that. And maybe they would have only scored once. That completely changes the way we would play the bottom of the 9th.
I understand we had very little timely hitting this weekend. But you can't say our defense in the OF was good this weekend either.

So our solution to our hitting problem is to put a worse bat into our lineup?

The defensive issue isn't how much better Stevenson is than Laird in CF...it's how much better those two are in CF/RF than Laird and ____ in CF/RF.
Outfield defense was definitely a problem last weekend, that much was obvious. We obviously didn't score enough to win but we had 14 hits Saturday and a bunch of hard hit balls for outs Sunday. It isn't like the entire lineup is getting dominated.

Yes I do know that.
First off the man that scored on the triple would have gotten to third given that the ball was well placed out in right center field. Cotton then balked. He would have scored on that.
If you want to say he wouldn't have gotten to third on the single to right center and he was on second at the time of the balk, that's fine. He would have moved to third base on the balk. The guy that was then batting hit a fly ball to the outfield that would have been a sac fly had there been a man on third.
The run would have scored regardless of whether that was a single or a triple. Now, I will give you that they probably only would have scored 1, but they undoubtedly would have scored a run that inning.

No, the outfield play was not very good.

I'd rather have McMullen and Foster batting, but I do understand having Stevenson out there for some added help in the field. Just please leave McCullen in the lineup.

Well the offensive lineup sunday scored 0 runs and didnt look great defensively.

You can't just assume everything still happens in the same sequence. But if you do and they only score once, it still changes the way we play the 9th without being down multiple runs.

I can assume that a balk that happened because our pitcher didn't come set long enough still happens.

And they scored 0 runs. You dont get a participation trophy in baseball.

Doesn't matter if they hit it to the wall all night...they couldn't score a damn run.

If you're talking about Sunday, we also lollipopped about 10 balls on first or second pitches. The plate approach was horrible nearly all day.

Youve been lobbying all season long for Jacoby based on the fact that he hit the ball hard and was running into bad luck and also based on his potential.
That's all my comment was getting at. You are correct, we didn't score any runs. We still knocked the shite out of the ball the whole game. Hell Jacoby hit two balls all the way to the wall that the LF and RF made very good plays on. Thanks for the smartass comment though

Meh, seemed like 3 plays to me. Laird and Foster each laid out for one that they couldn't get to and then there was the miscommunication play between Rhymes and Laird that allowed the ball to drop.
And taking Foster out of RF takes our best arm out of the OF. He might have thrown that guy out at home if Katz didn't cut if off
