I mean, linesmen get punched all the time breaking up fights, and we don't care. It's part of the job and that's what happened when you breakup fights. But to intentionally cross check an official? WTF?
A sports league really can't allow that kind of behvaior. The refs need to be untouchable (literally, not in the sense they are above criticism). If you accidentally hit a ref, hey, occupational hazard. We get it, no problems. But to intentionally hit a ref, to treat him like an adversarial player, is something no sports league should ever tolerate. Pro athletes cannot be allowed to physically intimidate the officials. They are not fair game.
Seriously, I think Morrow should get a call from the league for slamming an Islander's head into the ice repeatedly, but I don't expect he will. But that's not a systemic problem, other than the league doesn't honestly care about head injuries, despite its big talk. But hitting an official intentionally is beyond the pale. Letang needs to be suspended. Like, now. Maybe give him a "playoff discount" of some sort, but he's got to go. That is not acceptable behavior.
ETA: I'll also point out that gif comes from a Pens blog. Even Pens' fans think this is awful behavior. You can't justify this.

Kerry Fraser's column c'mon ref:
"The quick answer however is that Mika Zibanejad did NOT utilize a natural stopping motion with his left skate as he entered Carey Price's goal crease and focused on the incoming puck. Instead Zibanejad demonstrated a turn of that skate toward the net coupled with a distinct forward motion toward the goal as he contacted the puck. NO GOAL! "
so not just the ottawa radio hosts admit the kicked in goal was no good even Kerry Fraser?
complete hosejob.

Baloo - finally something we can agree on before the end of the Rangers / Caps series!

Lundquist a Vezina finalist. Ya'll think he wins again this year?

Bobrovsky would be my choice.

He's not having a good series so far. I appreciate you trying to get the bile up, but I really don't have any bad blood towards the Rangers. So much familiarity hasn't bred contempt, but more of a professional appreciation. I love Callahan's game, and McDonagah is an easy guy to like. Lundqvist is one of the most popular players in the game for good reason. Sure, I want to beat the Rangers, but I don't want the Rangers to lose. I'm rooting for the Caps, not against the Rangers. Their a good organization and frankly, a fairly likeable team. I wish we weren't playing. Again.
You look at the dirty hits in Pens-Isles or Bruins-Leafs (to say nothing of the grand daddy of them all going on in Ottawa), and the Caps-Rags series has been remarkably clean. The two biggest controversies were over procedural penalties, for godsakes. It's not like we're over-flowing with bad blood here.
ETA: I hate the term, but we're both playing with "class"

Ovechkin what the hell are you doing???
WHY give the Rangers bulletin board material like this? WHY?
Tonight is going to be entertaining. We'll see if sports karma is indeed, a bitch....

I thought it was a good goal myself.
You can turn your skate to direct a puck into the net.
If it wasn't deflected, I'd probably lean towards no goal, but it was and there is no chance that a player could decide to kick a puck in on a deflection that quickly.

My buddy Frenchie turned his new Golden Lab pup into a therapy dog, in the last 8 minutes the dog was held, walked around the room, cradled and hugged Frenchie played professional hockey in the ECHL, The German Icehockey league and the Swedish elite league...

Because if you cant get up for the Stanley Cup playoffs already, a quote's not gonna matter. And I'd love if the Rangers tried to be extra aggressive to disprove this quote and got a few boarding or roughing calls.
As Admiral Ackbar says, "It's a trap."
