Just watched the 30 for 30 on Elway/Marino

Is it just me or were John Elway and his dad the biggest prissy assholes around?
Also, Ken O'Brien is hilarious and took it all in stride. Love his comment about cousins being Jets and how they were pissed they didn't take Marino.

Even though I didn't really care for Eli doing what he did to SD, I thought he handled it way better than Elway.

Elway and his dad are legendary entitled douche bags.

Elway is definitely full of himself but that's nothing new.

Have they ever said the reason they didn't want to go to Baltimore?

Their reason was that Elway grew up and played college ball on the west coast and wanted to keep playing near there. He even said he didn't like the cold. Bradshaw's interview in the 30 for 30 is great though. "Go play baseball."

It was mainly because that franchise was a clusterfrick and they didn't like how it was being run....which honestly isn't a bad reason, in my opinion.

I don't understand why more elite athletes don't do that. If I had that kind of talent I would play where I wanted to play and let teams in cities like Cleveland, Detroit and Buffalo know there is no way I would be a worthy pick for them.

This.
I caught the replay of this one the other night and I liked it alright.
I couldn't help but get a little sleepy listening to Marvin Demoff's voice though. No kidding, I can't really explain it. It kind of reminded me of that guy's voice who used to do those painting shows on PBS. I think his name was Bob Ross.

Irsay was a drunken idiot and HC Frank Kush was a raging a-hole
It wasn't about the cold it was really about not wanting to play for a fricked up franchise

Dan Marino is the man. That is all.

Elway was a total bro. Marino just wanted bitches.

Today the colts trade the pick under the same circumstances
Elway probably ends up in San Diego

Elway has always come across as a slimey dick wrangler to me

Elway definitely came across as a douche, but history has proven that he made the right choice refusing to play for Irsay and the Colts.
I also love that in the 30 on 30's coverage of 1983 NFL Draft it includes a brief mention of McNeese's first and only 1st round draft pick (Leonard Smith - 17th pick by St Louis Cardinals).

i watched it last week.. while to this day elway and marino both are in my top 3... elway does seem like a douche, but as the film plays out it seemed like elway and his family had good reason not to go to the colts at that time. There were a couple things in the film i had no clue about though that just wow'd me, the main one being jim kelly basically telling the bills f u for a year! i had no clue about that

The Colts were a terrible franchise at the time. The most interesting thing was the Raiders trade and did the NFL talk the Bears out of that trade.
