Mature whitetail with one side of antlers "deformed", what would you do?

I took these pictures last season while hunting near Columbus, Texas. The property is managed, but there are no high fences. I have seen many deer like this, but none this size. I have always heard this was caused by a recent injury, a past injury, or genetics. I let him walk in the hopes that this was caused by an injury and he could still pass along great genes. He is a typical 7 points on one side, with what appears to be a single vertical horn on the other side. Sorry, the pictures were taken from a zoomed in phone, then zoomed in more to see details.
ETA: This is the first time this deer was seen. No knowledge of prior rack.

I let him walk unless I have two or more years of pics like that.

Would have dropped him and found a good taxidermist to make a matching side
Fwiw ive never heard of a deer having an injury and just not growing anything at all on that side. its always been a messed up looking but never blank

If you manage your herd for for the health of the herd and not for the heads on the wall then by age class he's a shooter, right? I assume he's an older deer. I don't pretend to be able to age them but if I get excited when I see them they're shooters.

I spent some time hunting in Indian a while back with a green jeans up there and some of the information that he shared with me was amazing. Genetics obviously play a HUGE part in rack development but I was blown away how the legs of the deer have so much to do with the rack as well. He showed me hundreds of pictures of deer with lopsided racks that had a injury on the opposite side of the small side of the rack. Maybe this isnt new news but it blew me away when he showed me all of the pics he had!
ETA: I dont think that deer is a subject of the above mentioned thought process....my guess is that is a broken rack that would grow back next year and be a stud...

Not sure why you would cull this deer without knowing why the other side was gone. He could have been injured when he was young or at the beginning of the season thus why it did not grow. If that is the case his genetics are what you want in the pool. I could understand it if the one side was a long spike or a basket rack...
JMHO..

I've always heard that the deer's body takes the calcium and other nutrients from the good side to load up the injury site, to help it heal faster. Since most of those nutrients go to rack production, that is the first place it draws from.

No way to know from those pics. Probably broken and he will be a stud with his antlers next year. If you haven't already figured out most on here don't know jack shite about the outdoors so prepare for horrible advice
OP said it wasn't broken, he has a single vertical tine on that one side. Look in the mirror pal.
