Recently purchased 2 1/2 acres to build on in the future. Only problem is I currently have a 22in Poulan Pro push mower. Need recommendation for a new zero turn. What do the lawn masters of the outdoor board use?

i'll let the experts weigh in specifically but don't go cheap, spend the money once and it'll last long time and you be very happy.

I used two Toro commercial mowers for my small lawn business. However, I was about to buy a commercial Scag before I closed shop.
For 2.5 acres you don't need commercial quality but it will make like much more enjoyable.

Take a look at the Gravely mowers.

Btw, this will turn into a Ford v Chevy v Ram thread. But almost every person will agree that commercial is the way to go. Stay away from the box stores and find a dealer. Go ask questions and look at features. I know the Scag dealer on Airline sells reconditioned mowers. I was about to buy one with a new motor but sold my company.

Not john deere. I dont like their mower as much as i used too.

Get a Bush Hog zero turn mower. Bush Hog, the words commonly used when talking about having to cut a lot of grass and weeds. You will be glad you did.

I had a Bad Boy. They are heavy duty. I had the smallest one and sold it to my dad. He cuts close to 2 acres and has not had any issues with it that I am aware of.

Have you thought about a small diesel Kubota tractor with a PTO on the back. That way you could add attachments and have a useful little tractor to use on your land. They cut quick with a belly mower and they can't stopped my much. Having a front end loader is helpful as well.

I like Hustler. Have used it on my 2 acre lawn in Texas for 8 years. Best investment I've ever made.
Mine is built like a brick shithouse...tough as nails. (52" FastTrak w/20 hp Honda). It will outlive me.
-3/4" thick steel on leading edge of deck
-Lifetime deck warranty
-Hustler is the company that actually invented the ZTR 30 years ago
-Zero electronics...all manual controls
-Uses KISS method (Keep It Simple, Stupid). Fewer things to go wrong.
In 8 years, following is all I've done with it (aside from regular maintenance).
-Replaced belts once
-Replaced key switch just last week
-Eliminated the "lawyer switch" (kill switch in seat)
-Cleaned carb once (last fall)
They're less expensive than the big name brands you hear about all the time, because Hustler doesn't advertise.

Definitely dont go cheap. My dad bought a craftsman and FIL bought a Toro a few years back. The toro has held up better.
I have a Husq rider that's an absolutely piece of crap, so im thinking about a Bad boy.

My dad runs a Bunton and has had zero problems with it in the 10 or so years he's had it. They manufacture under the Bobcat name now.

I got a 46" dixon speed-ztr for about 1.5 acres and love it. No problems what so ever, it's a little slower than the commercial mowers of the same size but saving 20 mins is nearly as valuable to me as it is to a commercial guy. They also have one of the longest warranties in the market.

Get a 36" Scag or Deere. Will be cheaper and you can still mow through it quickly

Anything commercial.
Scag and exmark are the two that I like the best with a little preference toward the scag. The decks are great on them.
ETA: depending on how your yard is shaped, you could save plenty money and get a regular style 48" John Deere and not take much longer to cut it. ZTR's shine when there's shite to go around.
Also much easier to drink beer on a regular mower.

Ferris, purchased one last year. Has a nice ride and zero problems so far. It is a commercial grade.

When I was doing landscaping all we ran were scags, we put countless hard hours on them and they're still running like tops.

I sell Toro, Scag and Hustler. Between those 3 for 2.5 acres, get a Hustler Fastrak. 4yr Warranty, Kawasaki Engine.
Right now you can get a Hustler Fastrak for $4999 or 0% for 48 months if you need financing.
Hustler Fastrak vs Timecutter (NO COMPARISON, Hustler ALL DAY)
Hustler Fastrak vs Toro Titan (Fastrak better engine, heavier duty)
Huster Fastrak vs Scag Freedom Z (Hustler has longer warranty and more horsepower)
Drive them ALL, see what's comfortable. If they won't let you drive it, don't buy it! Buy from the local dealer who you want to service you, stay out the big boxes.
That's just the raw basics, alot more to this than deck size, horsepower and price! Good luck!

I bought a Hustler 2 months ago because I know 4 or 5 people that own them and nobdy had a complaint.
Whichever you buy I recommend you buy from a place that'll repair it and have the personnel you'd trust to work own it. Businesses seem to stand behind products they sold better than similar items purchased from big box stores
