I am rooting for him and I can promise you I hate Bama at least as much as you do.

FWIW, he has been wearing LSU gear in some of those videos

Seriously, how fickle can some people be? The guy suited up for LSU for 3 years. Gave us all some great memories (Ariz St post-katrina). And someone is gonna throw all that to the side just because of something the kid wore. He's from fricking Alabama you dipshit! Get over it

First let me say, this is not a hate post.

My question is, where was this motivation and determination back in 07? what's so different now than then that's driving him. I think that breaks down into two possibilities.
1) Money
2) Trying to reclaim his fame, and right his embarrasment.

if its the first one, then he wont make it very long if he makes it back at all.

if he's trying to get his name back, become the QB everyone thought he could be, and lose the embarrasment of being one of the biggest bust in NFL history, then he has the right drive. I hope it's this one and i hope he succeeds.

Good luck

From 315 to 288. 27 pounds is no joke. I'd be shocked if a team isn't willing to consider paying him the league minimum to give him a chance if he keeps this up. Assuming Jamarcus is willing to take league min to get his foot back in the door... could pay huge dividends to that team.

I think the main difference is his back is against the wall now and he's had his wake-up call. Different mind-set when you have to work uphill and prove everyone wrong as compared to being the No.1 pick and getting by just on your potential

Who is to say he wasn't motivated? Could the constant pounding and coaching changes have played a part on him basically giving up.... He wasn't Akili Smith bad as a Pro Player.... He showed some promise but gained a reputation and then once he put on all the weight no team wanted to touch him. Maybe he is a stress eater and that is what caused him to gain weight....

Fact is he went into a horrible situation in Oakland at the time on a team that any young QB would struggle in. We do not know all the factors but JR is one of those former Tigers that people love to hate even though he did a lot of good things for LSU.

Mark Brunell stuck around for like 4-5 years with money being his main motivation.

To get back in the league, 2014 might be a better goal than 2013. I'll be rooting for him the whole way, though.

He's come a long way, but he still has a long way to go.

For real. Even if he could get down to about 270..maybe even 265, i don't see why teams like the Jets, Browns, or other teams starving for a QB wouldnt give him a chance.

Really? I dont think its going to take the dude another entire year and a half to lose weight and get back into the swing of things. Hes been at it two months and has already lost almost 30 lbs. By the time training camps roll around he could easily lose another 15-20. A guy as motivated as he seems now and as talented as everyone knows he can be, it would be a steal for someone if he can put it all together.

would be quite a story if he was able to work his way back to the NFL

I'm really hoping he can pull it off

I'm impressed with his physical progress. And to address the 2007 motivation...22yrs old and 30mm dollars mindset is a lot different than 28 years old.

Its not just about losing the weight, he's been completely out of the game for over 2 years now. It'll take a rough adjustment period, IMO 2014 is much more realistic than this year. This year is getting ready to get ramped up with OTAs and mini-camp in a matter of less than 2 months here. He's going to be super rusty still at that point.
