Why the hell would we want UVA? We already have a few quaint terrible programs with 50k seat stadiums in small, quaint towns that don't do dick for us as a conference. Aside from some recent baseball success, which is marginal at best, they pretty much offer nothing from an athletic standpoint and I'm not of the belief they have a ton of state pull.

To be honest, why we still feel the need to expand doesn't make any sense to me. If we're really going to do it, go the UNC route.

I'm really against expanding just due to the Missouri thing. And does everyone realize how we'll continue to have our voice marginalized as the conference expands? You think we're getting dicked over now with our scheduling format? Imagine when we're dealing with 2 other teams in the conference.

I couldn't think of a worse fit than the UVA fanbase. And believe me, I know, it's about markets. Everyone keeps acting like UVA or Tech have the "DC Market" which is total bullshite.

UVA has a MUCH better athletic department than VT. In a bigger city. Both add the same markets. VT is slightly closet to Roanoke than UVA to Richmond, but Richmond and the tri-cities is about the size of the NOLA metro(including North Shore). UVA would of prolly easily been top 4 in the SEC in basketball this year. They are the big university of the state, and were the top football team of VA till Beamer got to VT. And if we can get UNC too, we bring a natural/hated rivalry.(My step-dad is still pissed at Ronald Curry and UNC for the switch).
They could certainly improve in football in the SEC. Though IIRC they DO NOT allow early entries which will hurt some.

Better than VT. It's amazing how many "huge" VT fans become UNC or Duke fans during basketball season. I would say it was close to half of the VT fans I knew living in Richmond. UVA fans, are at least UVA fans in everything, and you will not catch one rooting for UNC or Duke(except for the occasional game, usually against VT)

I don't think either is a good fit. Just as I don't think Missouri was. I was an early proponent of expansion but I've really drawn back from that feeling after what I've seen happen.

I can understand that completely. I like 12 a lot more than 14, but I guess I am hoping 16 will better. Really hoping the 4-4 team pods is more than just a message board dream.
I did like the Sheltie addition though.

I would be all for changing the inequitable scheduling format, but I have serious doubts that occurs, even with 16. I just think it waters down the conference.

I could really give two shits about UVA and VTech, and if I have this much trouble, after this long, caring about South Carolina, I'm sure as hell never going to care about UVA and VTech.

This is where I may be in the minority on here. Living in VA for 12 years, and half in a UVA household, I certainly give 2 shits. Though my hatred for VT didn't come from my Step-Dad. I also would love for LSU to play in Charlottesville, in football and baseball. Both of us like those more than basketball(which I know was there just a few years ago)

I can understand that from where you're coming from. I just don't see many teams really feeling too invested in a South Carolina/UVA Thursday night game.

I hear you, but the USC/UVA example might not of been the best due to the history in the ACC. I know UNC would be a natural rival for them if they came, but I think UVA could be close.

UVA has more attractive coeds and would give the SEC a true academic powerhouse. Moreover, they represent a guaranteed victory for LSU football.

Damnit, the latest rankings agree with you. This is a recent development however.

Neither, I wish we would have left the SEC alone, instead we added A&M & Missouri. I don't see the positive!

Virginia is the better school with a southern culture and a better athletic department

So Virginia (even though Beamer has made Va Tech the better football team for the last 15 years)
