It seems like they all had the same voice and after those bands it's like no one can sing like that anymore.

Isn't it harsh on the vocal cords singing that high all the time?

It's definitely hard on the ear drums

I'm pretty sure he (passion pit) sings in falsetto and they turn his mic up

The guy from The Darkness does a pretty good job

There's a few bands that have similar vocalists in style now. Check out Passion Pit, Bullet for my Valentine, as well as many indi groups. Just because every band on alt rock radio today sounds like they have Chad Kroeger singing lead doesn't mean there aren't other singers out there.

People can still sing like that, but they don't. That shite got more stale than a month old loaf of bread.

There are tons of Euro progressive/power metal bands out there with singers like the ones from the old days. It's so much better than the 'growling' that passes for singing nowadays.

Sorry, but a talented growler is actually more impressive than a mediocre shrieker. You may not "care" for the style, but that's just your reaction.
That said, the metal community is full of shitty singers, both shriekers and growlers.
There are also some really good metal singers out there: Mikael Akerfeldt (growls), Devin Townsend (cheese metal squeals), Jens Kidman (growlish), etc. Devin is one of the most talented vocalists on Earth and he calls in Mike when he needs a growl. There is definitely technique to it. With poor technique, you can destroy your vocal chords.

What would you call Myles Kennedy?

I'm not an Alter Bridge fan, so I'll reserve judgement.

i'm not either, but that doesn't mean i can't acknowledge that he appears to have a pretty decent voice...and by all accounts of people who have seen him live, it's good live as well.

Heroine + AIDS is the reason.
