AMD has obviously has no answer for the 4090 but the 7900 XT and XTX both beat the 4070 Ti and 4080 in rasterization.
The 7900xtx and 4080S are nearly within margin of error of each other, and the 7900xt is about 3% better than the 4070tiS.
In pure rasterization.
The Nvidia cards beat the brakes off of the AMD cards in RT while also having access to DLSS which is currently superior to FSR in upscaling (I have no opinion on their relative frame generation performance).
Now, while I’m sure there is a population of gamers out there that exclusively play at 4k, without upscaling, and without RT, I imagine that’s a relatively small percentage of the gaming population. For everyone else, the same tier AMD card has to be offered at a significant discount compared to the Nvidia card to be willing to sacrifice the feature set. Which is why the same tier Nvidia cards tend to sell for $100-$150 more than the same tier AMD card.
Now, to be clear, I’m not happy about this status quo. I think cards this gen, from both companies, are dogshit values. But, it is what it is, because people seem inclined to pay these prices for these cards, which is causing AMD’s market share gains to stall, and at times shrink.
And ultimately, none of the above really matters, because as you said, nothing comes close to the 4090. Hell, if the rumors are true, AMD might barely compete with the 4090 next gen.

Are you guys that are waiting on 50 series cards from Nvidia even considering AMD options at all? I didn't and maybe I put myself at a disadvantage.
However as a proud owner of an AM5 board, I'm very interested in the Zen 5 offering upcoming.

I’m absolutely considering it. With that said, if rumors are true that AMD isn’t looking to compete on the high end next gen, I have a hard time seeing myself pulling the trigger on one of their cards, as I’m looking for a “last card” for my 3440x1440 ultrawide, to hold me over until cards get good enough to justify 5k/2k. So as someone who enjoys RT and generally uses upscaling, I’m not sure AMD will be offering any candidates next gen, though I genuinely hope I’m wrong.
Eta: And don’t stress over it now. When announcements start coming out, I promise we’ll discuss them at length in this board, probably in a dedicated thread.

Gamers Nexus put out a scathing piece on EK's business practices today. fricking shame. Their basic line AIO was a long time suggestion of mine; first they killed that, now this. I think they'll be off my shopping and rec list indefinitely:

Damn, their basic IO is in my build right now
On another note - are you going to build new for 5000 series?

A long time water cooling company. They were the OG goats in the custom loop game

Don't feel bad no one uses RT.

Like I said, figured you weirdos were out there, but you guys are a fraction of a fraction of a percent of gamers. In the last Steam hardware survey, all aspect ratios of 4k gamers accounted for less than 4%. There are more ultrawide gamers than there are 4k gamers.
And I imagine the majority of them are using upscaling, RT, or both
Eta: Seriously, I know we’ve talked about it before, but give DLSS Quality mode a go. It’s very, very good at 4k.

Unless something goes really sideways, I’m planning to keep my case and PSU, but otherwise do a full rebuild late this year/early next year around what I assume will be the 9800x3D and the 5080, unless AMD pulls its head out of its arse and competes at the top of the GPU stack next gen, contrary to current rumors.

For sure, gaming industry is a dud anymore.

5080 with a 9800x3d and one of those 4k/240hz OLED monitors is my wet dream

Like I’ve mentioned before, this next build is intended to be my “last” 3440x1440 build. Short of component failure, I’m planning to keep everything pretty much as is until such a time that I think both 5k/2k monitors have matured to the point that they are worth buying *and* GPUs have sufficiently advanced such that I could upgrade my GPU/build a rig that could push 90fps+ on that monitor at high+ settings. Which, at current pacing, I would anticipate being five or so years from now.

Non gaming-
I have a sister that is looking for a simple machine, just MS office, email, and internet. No gaming. What's a good budget CPU w/ integrated graphics that I can build into a machine totaling about $350. She is saying she wants a laptop but i'm trying to get her to let me build something.

Check out this part list. This Pc includes the amd 5600g and 16gb of ram with 1tb m.2 storage, so plenty of ram for basic tasks and multiple applications and fast storage for fast boots. The CPUs igpu should be fine for simple youtube/Netflix at 1080p and cooler is included, however it is a little over the $350 budget.
I didn’t include OS considering windows 11 can be installed for free.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. Still in a laptop mindset but I'll definitely come back to this if minds can be changed.
