I drove by both places yesterday evening. Based by the looks of the outside of Brisbi, I'm thinking June.
Blue Crab might can make it by the end of the month.

This nice weather had me thinking about these two places.

I passed by there today. I'm excited to see some new stuff going in that area I've drank many a drink in that area. Started with the old Bart's that burned down, then the new Bart's, Jaegers, and the Dock. I still have my Dock VIP card, wonder if it will work at these new places.

The Dock is supposed to be opening back up. Construction was supposed to begin earlier this year. I haven't been to the lakefront in a while to see if it has started.

Where did you hear this? That area, including the parking lot, is still a wasteland.

Was having lunch with a co worker and talked to the owner. He used to sell to liquor to the owner and they were talking about it. I'll talk to him tomorrow and see if he's heard anything else.

nola.com has a new article with more information about Brisbi's.

I'm pretty excited about this place. A planned menu is on their facebook update and it looks pretty good. Seems they are going to work a little bit to make the bar scene interesting.

Cool. I live in that area and am looking forward to both. Anything would be better than Landry's.

As for The Dock that a previous poster hinted at...no way. I don't think anything will ever be built in West End again. Sad.

My dad said he isn't even sure how these places got insurance, and that there's no chance anyone is writing a policy on anything in West End. So unless you are willing to risk total catastrophic loss in a place where, well, your odds are pretty decent, then yeah, nothing is getting built out there. Maybe some rogue food trucks will set up there, no property values to destroy right?

He's talking about West End. Where the Dock, Jager's, etc used to be.

Will never happen again.

That would be really awesome, if they could set up the city's first "Food Truck Village". Its a really good spot for it on the weekends for a sort of semi-permanent spot.

That is a really great idea.

It would be nice if they fixed up the lakefront.

No kidding, its perfect for that kind of thing. There's a massive amount of parking, a park, nothing is permanent and there's no "but I pay rent and they're stealing my bizniz" crying going on. As long as it was somewhat organized to prevent trash piling up everywhere it would be a great thing and a great way to bring some life back to the area.

Well it would have to be partially developed by the city...cleaned up, fixtures for the trucks or trailers put in, trash bins, etc. With the trucks or business paying some small rent to have large crowds.

But its a perfect PERFECT spot. On the Lake, massive amount of parking, a great park near by, and basically no competing businesses right there until you get to Maple Cafe/Wasabi/Russel's on Lake Marina Ave.

Its really too good of an idea, which means it will never happen.

Great idea, but do you think it would draw the numbers to make it profitable for the trucks and the city (to spend money to put lighting , trash bins, clean up etc).

I don't know if enough people would go because you are mainly pulling out of lakeview and bucktown/metairie.

Too bad coconut beach isn't still out there, a food truck place would kill with all the people going to play volleyball.

That's one thing that the city hasn't spent any Katrina money on. The lakefront and fly both need some fixing up. It's a shame these areas haven't gotten any attention. I'm pretty sure the Army Corps controls the lakefront area and that's why nothing has been done.

I don't think they "control" it perse, but I think the city has taken a "wait and see" approach until the Corps figured out what they were going to take (a la CB). Would've been dumb to clean it up for the Corps to come in and stick a pumping station on top of it 2 years later, but then again we have guys that spend $300 million on marginal renovations to an airport then suggest knocking the fricking thing down about 3 weeks after they finish SO...

I brought it up to my wife.

"There's no bar there. Food trucks are for bars"

Sigh.
