The people y'all call music snobs generally listen to a broader range of music than most others. Not real sure how that can be considered close minded
Broad range doesn't free someone from being a total close minded douche. Most of us listen to a broad range of music, but we understand there are many reasons someone may like a particular song, or genre of music. Some folks just can't understand that.
I really dislike Radiohead, but understand why some people really, really like them. Same with the Dead.

i agree...when it comes to music, i really don't get people who believe their opinion is of more value than anyone who might happen to disagree with them...that kind of thinking is pretty stupid.

I'm the same exact way with radiohead.... I don't like them at all but I can respect them. Some musicians don't have any respectable qualities and that's not my problem. In order for me to actually respect a musician they have to release respectable music and when people knight for music that contains no respectable qualities I'm going to call them out on it.

That's why there is such an awesome range of acts for individual taste.

Just your opinion. You fail to realize there are reasons beyond yours why people appreciate specific songs or acts. It could bring back memories, it could be fun, it could do a variety of things they appreciate that you don't.

The appeal of music is largely emotional. I don't know a mature person can tell another that their positive emotional reaction to a specific piece is based on bullshite. That person has some growing to do.

And beer snobbery is awesome. I love a good IPA. What do you care what I drink?
I don't care what you drink. That was my point others were the ones saying beer snobs are worse than music snobs, not me. I drink good beer all of the time. I've gotten over telling people what they should drink or like in anything really. Like what you like.

Roger. Sorry, but you don't get it. It's not something you ever will get, so discussing it is pointless.
Oh, and beer snobs are barely above puppy killers

The only answer is Van Halen
I'm not a Van Halen fan, but I think this is the best answer.

Guns 'N Roses Weren't they only together like 6 or 7 years? I guess i was just never a fan.
True. But I think they personify America, Rock 'n Roll music and the combination of the two for their generation better than just about anybody, except for Aerosmith.

Why hasn't Journey been in this conversation?
• Multiple hits
• Songs transcend generations and are still running pretty strong
• Good combination of guitars, keyboard synths, vocal melodies
Just curious...

Which I don't get if that's the case...
I mean i'm not the biggest Journey fan or anything, but Neal Schon is a hell of a guitarist, (and even in the 70's he was more of a prog/fusion type of player before Journey got huge - so he's got some real musical chops/background)
I mean they're not like the fricken Jonas bros or anything....They've written and performed some pretty memorable stuff.
ETA: They're not "Manufactured" like a band like Jonas Bros.

He doesn't get what? I don't think you get what he's saying. Who are you to tell someone what they like or don't like?

And this is stupid. You advocate music snobs but criminalize beer snobs? You say music snobs are preaching the gospel, so why can't beer snobs be doing the same thing?

I mean, this is a music message board... it kinda comes with the territory..
I have a music kinship, I think, with a few posters on this board, but they absolutely hate some of the bands I like, and for the love of god, one of them likes the fricking crash test dummies... the crash fricking test dummies!!!!!!
(I cant remember who)

Ironic statements are ironic. Rephrased: "my close-mindedness is virtuous!"

I am not telling anyone what they like.
