In an interview with CNN’s Carol Costello today Justin Verlander made it clear he’d have no problem playing alongside a gay teammate, saying:
"I wouldn’t mind it. … We got 25 guys, it’s a family, and our goal is to win a World Series. What your sexual orientation is, I don’t see how that affects the ultimate goal of our family.

I’m sure there are. I think as with any sport, a gay player would be hesitant to come out, but the sheer number says there absolutely is. Yeah, I don’t see why not, given the right situation, and a team that’s a family atmosphere, and I feel like we have that atmosphere here. I don’t think one of our players would be scared to come out."

Which is interesting since Torii Hunter said, "For me, as a Christian … I will be uncomfortable because in all my teachings and all my learning, biblically, it’s not right,” he says. “It will be difficult and uncomfortable.”

Somebody should tell Torii Hunter some of the fricked up stuff that's in the Bible and see if he still follows it to a tee, which I'm sure he currently does.

Hunter apparently hasn't read the teachings of Christ

That's irrelevant since gay men don't play sports. They are too busy tickling each others' buttholes and shopping for clothes

Pretty sure Torii retracted that statement pretty quickly.

That doesn't mean he doesn't feel that way. Black people have strong ties to the church and are very anti-gay.

He still could've meant it.

He said he was "misquoted" of course this is same guy who stated, "Fans look down from their seats onto the
baseball field, see dark-colored skin and might assume they are
African-American players. But increasingly, the players instead hail
from the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico or Venezuela.

“People
see dark faces out there, and the perception is that they’re African
American,” Los Angeles Angels center fielder Torii Hunter says.
“They’re not us. They’re impostors.

“Even people I know come up
and say, ‘Hey, what color is Vladimir Guerrero? Is he a black player?’
I say, ‘Come on, he’s Dominican. He’s not black.’ “

“As
African-American players, we have a theory
that baseball can go get an imitator and pass them off as us,” Hunter
says. “It’s like they had to get some kind of dark faces, so they go to
the Dominican or Venezuela because you can get them cheaper. It’s like,
‘Why should I get this kid from the South Side of Chicago and have
Scott Boras represent him and pay him $5 million when you can get a
Dominican guy for a bag of chips?’

“I’m telling you, it’s sad.”

He sure could have. He seemed pretty upset about it though, I thought it was sincere. Who knows.

they should ask Torii if he's actually ever read the bible

This is ridiculous. Why does it matter what their beliefs are? Let them go out and play the game and let us go be fans for them for the way they play. Not their views on political matters. How have we allowed things like their views on homosexuality to creep into the perfect game? It's disgraceful really. I'm tired of hearing about gay rights all over the place they're shoving it down our throats.

FWIW, I'm not for gay rights. But it wouldn't affect me if they were allowed to marry. Just strictly a belief thing.

You don't think their beliefs matter?

Nice. Your dad was probably saying the same thing about integrating the game 50 years ago. Who wants to hear the political views of some hippie/commie player who's willing to play with blacks?

Lol at you being upset about a player stating his acceptance of people who are different.

Only reason it is news is because everyone wants to know, once a few players come out then it won't be as big. First player who comes out with have a ton of media but next few wont have to deal with as much scrutiny
