quote:And when those 21 million are mined, Mr. Creator starts another protocol with a slightly different "random" key to produce another new currency.
The protocol was designed to allow for only 21 million bitcoins to ever be created and released.

It's fortunate how thorough Google tracks my Internet history. Now I keep getting ads for bit mining servers...if anyone's interested in investing $25k, here ya go...LINK

Specialized $30,000 equipment to "mine" bitcoins? This is getting more retarded by the day.
This will make an interesting case study someday along with tulipmania, beanie babies, and internet stocks.
Although spending this much money for a bitcoin miner seems like one of the all-time dumbest things to spend money on.

But you'll have the baddest gaming computer on your block to show your miner friends when you are finished. That is if the miner friends actually ever leave their homes.

I don't mine
Let me see if I have this straight:
1) You've never "mined" for bitcoins but you're an expert on how to do it to the point where you advise others to spend their money buying expensive hardware and to spend hours of their time doing it.
2) You've never actually bought anything with bitcoins but you encourage others to accumulate bitcoins and buy things with them because it's so "easy, fast and cheap." Although since you've never bought anything with bitcoins, it's questionable whether you really know if it's "easy, fast and cheap" to do so.
I suppose the only thing left for you to admit is you don't actually have any bitcoins. You just want others to have them.
Have I left out anything about your expertise in bitcoins?

Mr Creator made himself a shite ton in the beginning and will cash out, leaving everyone else holding the bag....

I can hear it now. "Yeah the original bitcoins were mined to replicate gold, were now releasing silver, copper, bronze..." No telling how long they could go.

There are many forks of bitcoin already out there, as well as other unique crypto-currencies.
Litecoin is probably the most popular behind bitcoin. It currently exchange for about $0.20 per litecoin.

I'll give it to him, he knows his shite about bitcoins...
Like I said in another thread, I hope for his sake its legit and more power to him if he hits it big, but I think its an epic level ponzy scheme.

I just posted this on a completely different topic...but all of this arguing is perfectly representative of...
Wiki had more knowledge on the dynamics of Bitcoin than anyone else on TDings...I could care less if he is actually mining bitcoins or actively participating in the bitcoin marketplace -- it does not discredit his knowledge of how that ecosystem functions.
Yes, bitcoins is a risky activity that is in a total wild west phase right now.
More than likely, Bitcoin will fail but set the foundation for alternative currencies. A fast follower will emerge that learns from Bitcoins failures and it will become the replacement. At this point, very few people understand bitcoin well enough to even formulate an informed opinion on the topic.

He certainly knows the technology better than anyone else, but that is only a small aspect of bitcoin. Try explaining bitcoins flaws relating to a myriad of other subjects like banking, currency markets, bubble economics, etc, it goes straight over his head and his response is usually, "i dont think you understand the technology." "and because the technology is so fricking fascinating to me, it makes all bitcoin's other problems just float away on this cool breeze of unicorn flatulence i've been getting high on for the past year."

the problem with you and others of your ilk is that you refuse to acknowledge that there are a myriad of economists and economic theories that disagree with what you say. you have your opinions and that's fine, but at least acknowledge that they are only opinions and that you could be wrong, otherwise you're just being a know it all douche

The USD - backed by the full faith, credit and nuclear arsenal of the United States of America.
Posted on 3/9/13 at 11:47 pm to WikiTiger
find me an economist, an actual economist, not some loon on a message board, that believes bitcoin or any other digital currency will ever unseat or even become a threat to the USD and i'll stop. And I do state when I'm making an opinion - like when i say i think bitcoin and other digital currencies' future value will be as a medium of exchange between two other currencies. On the other hand, you regularly make absurd claims like the US government couldn't do anything to stop bitcoin, and state them as fact, so who is the real douche here?

The way I understand it is if one can solve the value of mermaid poon to unicorn farts they could technically be mining for bitcoins.
It all makes sense now
