Day 4, still seeding.

Gonna have to speed this stuff up if we want the masses getting on board.

Maybe you need to water those bitcoins if you expect them to grow....

UPDATE BUMP

Seeding completed two days ago!

But I'm not sure if the software is doing anything else. There is no progress bar or calculation timers or anything.

Will report more later!

Hey Wiki, serious question here.

What kind of rig would it require to mine 1 bitcoin per month? solo mining, not part of one of those co-ops

core i7
4 gigs ram
7 out of 10 kind of video card.

I'm not sure I believe in it as a currency yet, but if people are buying these bastards at $33 a pop, why not? play the game?

would that get 1 per month? year?

You would be willing to go through all of that trouble to mine one bitcoin a month?

So you would spend $20-$30 (a month) in running your computer daily just to make $40 and going through all of the hassle to learn about bitcoin?

Why wouldn't everyone? For that reason alone, I assume it to not be possible.

Depends on the actual video card. Processor and RAM really don't matter much.

And it's over 40 today. Insane. Wish I would have bought some in December when I tried to but couldn't get my funds to exchange properly.

my comp runs 24/7 as it is for other reasons. is running this programs going to somehow use more electricity.

don't get me wrong, I'm not sunshine pumping yet, just don't see why I shouldn't try to take advantage of the situation

it'll make your video card work harder so there's going to be additional power draw from the chip and its cooling.

you probably would never earn anything if you solo mined with that.

you should join a mining pool. even the big time miners typically join mining pools.

$44.22 right now

ASIC's are coming out and they are going to make all CPU and GPU mining obsolete

what is an ASIC? cost? is it something I add to my comp, or is it a stand alone comp?

I think a mid range ASIC from Butterfly Labs is around $650. (they aren't shipping yet)

You add it to your computer.

ASIC

Application Specific Integrated Circuit

Basically, it's a chip that's specifically designed to mine bitcoins, thus it's way more efficient

you really did this? Meauxjeaux, I am disappoint. if you wanted to get your hands on some bitcoins, it would have been considerably more cost effective to just monitor the price to wait on some bad news or a random selloff. The market is so absurdly volatile you would not have had to wait long. A lot of early adopters have huge stashes and sell them in chunks, and they can easily sell enough to manipulate the price on their own.

i dont get the logic either. bitcoin has really become more of a gambling related technology hobby more than a legitimate currency investment.

I've got to hand it to the bitcoin creator/creators, they have convinced you to not only drink the koolaid, but also to mainline it by buying chips at $650/Pop.

I couldn't have come up with this, probably because I have a soul

I don't mine and I haven't bought an ASIC. Did you have a point?
