I had it, very good, I just wish it had not been served lukewarm. If you send something back in a restaurant and ask them to warm it up a little, they always nuke for 5 minutes until it's a cauldron. Just as bad as lukewarm.

Went there a few weeks ago for the 1st time, and really enjoyed it. The RB poboy was really good, and the gumbo was pretty good, although not as good as it's been hyped to be. My biggest gripe was that it was too oily... would have been better if they skimmed the oil off the top.

I've eaten there twice.
The gumbo is extremely over priced for a small cup and was lukewarm both times I had it.
Had a shrimp poboy one time and it was okay. Had a catfish poboy last time and it was very good.
Dempsey's is better and still my go to for both.

i disagree on the overpriced for gumbo, atleast the seafood.
i got a cup last week....had 6-8 crabclaws in it, alot of shrimp, several chunks of crab. good value in my opinion. i even commented to my wife on how much seafood was in the cup. maybe i was lucky and got a deeps scoop?
i understand lukewarm as well tho. wish it was a little warmer. that said, i wasnt still awaiting it to cool when my salad or poboy arrived.

My cup had a few nice shrimp in it, but that was it. And $8 for a tiny lukewarm cup means I won't order it again.
But good poboys. They really need to do something with the interior as well.

RB poboy was great! Service not so much.

The gumbo is good but needs to be served hotter and in a bigger cup for the dollar amount charged.
Also, serving cold rice on the side is a bit of a turn off as well.

Zombie, is O's SF gumbo loaded with okra?

Willies (on Cloverland) > Dempsey's > O's....IMO

Not to my recollection. It had some really nice shrimp and crab in it though.

Fried okra fresh out of a garden is pretty tasty. Any other okra is nasty to me.

If you just pan fry okra and put it in at the end of making a seafood gumbo, it doesn't fall apart, and doesn't make the gumbo slimy. Fresh okra is delicious that way. It's just one extra step that can make the world of difference. JMO

I've been several times (as you can tell by my handle, it's convenient).
To me it's head and shoulders over Dempsey's for its core items. I have not, however, had lukewarm gumbo served to me there, nor cold rice. If I had, I would be critical as well.
I do agree that the cup of gumbo price, in particular, should be a little less. What I would do, if I were them, is add menu items that combine sandwiches and cups of gumbo at a price lower than both a la carte. Give a better deal to those who are eating a big meal.
I agree that the seafood gumbo is loaded and the chicken and sausage is solid. One other thing I'd recommend is they consistently have potato salad available. A lot of people move here from West Louisiana and see this as standard. They have C&S gumbo worthy of West Louisiana prairie cajuns, so they should always have that final touch and have the potato salad available.
One other thing: Make red beans and rice (and sausage) a menu item and come up with something different for the lunch special on Mondays. The RB&R is solid and I've found myself there a couple of times on other days wishing I could get it.

You may be cuter than Zombie, 'splaining why you got such a full cup.

Quite possible. Ive gad it again since..... And agreed, the liquid amt may be small - but its loaded with seafood. Im a fan. Havent been served cold gumbo or cold rice. Gumbo is not loade with "slimey okra." I believe it to be about right - i prefer more meat in my gumbo than soup anyway. Cant please everyone.
I have become a big fan of this place..... Service is workin on harmony..... But atleast they are tryin.
I think overall the food is far better than alotta places in BR. Its locally owned, folks are super nice, and they strive to please the customer. Im in.

And that's a whole lot of the battle. You have to care and love your food and taking care of people, or just get out of the business. It seems like it's a given, but soooooooo many struggle with it that it must not be a given.

Agreed. They really do seem to care, and have been very pleasant to deal with in my experiences with them in the past.
