Never done it but thought it would be fun. Looking for some advice.

I have a fishing camp on the Escatawpa River (near AL/MS line) I bought six crawfish traps from Bass Pro. What should I bait them with and where should I put them?

Are ditches, small creeks or main river best spot?Anything I should be looking for - bridges, rocks, current, etc.? When should I start setting traps?

I see guys on I-10 exit ramp scooping them up in the ditches but trapping looks more fun.

Thanks for any advice

What kind of traps did you buy? Right now bait them with cut up fish, the nastier the better.

I always used beef melt and those little pyramid traps. Would set them in ditches that went from dry to as big as being a canal.

There are some legit professional crawfish er men here so they would probably be more help

Right now cut pogey is the way to go. Once it warms up, using cubes is way easier and cheaper

Meh. Not great. 15-20 sacks of mediums on 1200ish cages

Sounds about par for the course from all that I've heard.

That is not a crawfish trap.

I've several for catching bait fish down at the beach. Figured it would work for crawfish.

If that's not a crawfish trap, what the hell is. Haha I have no freaking clue. Figured I'd ask the pros.

That will work, but the box traps work better. I use fish heads and chicken backs that sit out in the sun for a day or so. I normally don't start even trying to trap until sometime in March. The water is still too cold here to catch much.

Don't use spoiled bait. And those are minnow traps.
